There should be a weak version of Poppy's W active on an item.
It's all well and good that Poppy gets her cool kit with all these unique tools, but after the release hype dies down and things get balanced out, not every game is going to have a Poppy in it. As her popularity wanes, the champs her ability counters are going to grow popular again. And you just KNOW that from now on those dash-heavy champs are going to be balanced around the possibility of their dashes being reacted to and interrupted.
So why not make that an actual possibility? Put a short dash-denial on an item, and suddenly other tanks can do something more than flash in and pop every ability; they have an actual utility option that can peel for their carries or give their team some sticking power against a slippery target.
Now I know what you're going to say: Poppy's W is what sets her apart from other tank champions. It's what makes her unique. If you put her ability on an item, there's no longer any reason to pick her.
But I really have to question that logic. Isn't the giant hammer erupting from the ground, suddenly making an even fight uneven, pretty unique? Or the tackle that makes her especially dangerous around walls? I can't really think of another tank who can do either of those things. And dash prevention technically isn't even that unique - Azir's wall introduced the concept long before Poppy's rework was released.
Did people stop picking Amumu because they put flat damage reduction on Doran's Shield where anyone could access it? No, it was generally accepted that it was a small part of a character who had much bigger, more defining things in his kit. I think the same should go for Poppy, as well.
It doesn't have to be a completely new item. A good candidate I'm thinking of for this change would be Randuin's. We already have so many other tank items with fat slows attached - Deadman's, Righteous Glory, Iceborn Gauntlet - does Randuin's ALSO need one? Remove Randuin's slow effect and instead let it interrupt enemy dashes as the shockwave expands, and suddenly it has a unique niche independent of its statline. Also, Randuin's passives make it pretty good against autoattackers, which suits it pretty well to a dash-stopper active as many (though not all) high mobility champions are autoattack reliant.
The effect might seem like it would be very binary and difficult to balance, but there are plenty of levers you could pull to weaken it outside the item's statline: lower shockwave size/duration, lower interrupt duration, active cooldown, or even add an activation delay if you're worried it will push out dash reliant champs too hard.
What do you guys think? I think it would be a good addition to the game to both combat mobility creep and add some element of strategy to tank builds, but if you disagree feel free to tell me why.
