Re-Patching after pick and ban

I queued for draft pick and after banning and choosing champs, I expected to move into the loading screen. Instead, however, I popped up at the client launcher and received a notification saying that "patches were being fixed" or something like that. I couldn't get into the game, and received FIVE TWENTY MINUTE LEAVERBUSTERS because of this. Why didnt it patch before I queued?? I have 14 minutes left to wait as of now to queue. :(
