Tip: Minion aggro is your friend when playing defensively
Hi, I decided to write a small tip as a person who always plays solo lanes like a "pussy" during lane phase. I have seen a few situations (especially since I started experimenting with max W lane Yi) where an enemy has a clear advantage that he throws by trying to assert his dominance through a wall of minions. I think this may be helpful in the lower levels for the tough range vs melee matchups because minion aggro seems to be underestimated there.
I am no expert in the fine details, but the very basic concept here is:
Minions will attack you if you autoattack their champion in their vicinity.
It is ironic sometimes, that the enemy laner somehow ends up with 50% without you even touching them a single time (and if you are running a sustain setup, you are probably full hp).
There are 2 ways to make use of this. Again, I must stress that I am unranked, and my MMR is unknown for normals, but this actually works for me a lot of the time.
1. Win trades during the early game. If their trading pattern involves an autoattack, stand near your minions and play out all your defensive cards out to reduce damage (if available). Even better, CC them in the middle of the wave if you have one. For ranged, back off after taking an autoattack to force them to run through your wave if they want to follow up with another, you'll need some sustain and defense.
**2. Early turret diving. ** If you feeling cocky, and the enemy is clueless, you can cheese them with a dive. If the enemy has already lost to you (you have more hp than him/her), just push the wave all the way to the turret. A good player will farm that wave. A bad one will think that is the chance to even the tables on you while you are attacking the turret (since you can't attack without drawing turret aggro). He is wrong, for the second he touches you, he draws the wrath of the ~10 odd minions whacking the turret, which can easily put him low enough for a quick in-out dive.
There are a few champs to watch out for though.
and
will make use of minions for their respective Es (Jax gets up to 100% bonus damage for AAs dodged, Amumu gets CDR per AA on him). Ability based champs do not draw aggro, so don't go intentionally taking damage from abilities. Players who understand this also know how to drop aggro by ducking in-out of bushes.
