What to do with Ryze
*Whenever I say supercharged I mean when Ryze's passive is active, because that's the description of his passive.
I play Ryze a good amount. I always tell my friends about my disgusting games because Ryze is disgusting if you know how to play him.
A friend told me that they nerfed Ryze on PBE, so that his passive gets reduced to only 5 spells per passive, and I think that really hurts his playstyle. Admittedly, he is super broken in that form, but Ryze has always been about the massive spell slinging (at least since I joined (Season 2)), and being oh so ever slightly tanky just because his itemization works well with his kit.
I was looking around the forum to see if there was a post on this, I couldn't find one, so forgive me if there was one already posted. There was a post that mentioned that he was a 450 champ, and when Ryze was updated, I agree with them, for a 450 champ, the ones that are supposed to be easy to play because they're beginner champs, I agree that Ryze is pretty hard to play, and at the same time I do not. I'd rather say He is hard to master, but easy to play. To get the most efficient combos you have to think about what spell you're going to throw next, or having a combo placed into muscle memory. It's not in muscle memory yet for me, and I play him a lot. I always know how to do it, but sometimes I panic because I swear i cast a spell but it didn't cast so then I end up just mashing the QWER keys until all my spells until Ryze's passive is up. Also, not the hardest thing in the world, but still a bit difficult, as a 450 champ you have to manage your passive stacks.
Anyways, I don't know if Riot is looking to give Ryze another update, but he is definitely really strong if played right. I do not think he should be changed to only 5 spells per passive, as that reduces his power significantly, and it wouldn't feel like Ryze anymore. My intention here is to change the 'reduced to 5 spells per passive' change to something else so it doesn't affect Ryze's continuous spellcasting playstyle.
So, here's a couple proposals I have to balancing Ryze, and I hope they try it out.
Passive Discussion: A) Passive: If you do reduce it to only 5 spells per spell cast, I hope you at least reduce his requirement for arcane mastery down to 3-4 spells (I think I would recommend three because the 5 spells per spell cast is a huge nerf).
B) Passive: Keep it the same or Possible buffs/nerfs decrease/increase number of spell cast requirements.
C) Passive: Same thing as it is now, but ADDITIONALLY Double the mana cost, cooldown, and damage of ryze's spells. -This might sound crazy, but it's a serious proposal, please read the rest of the proposals before you say this is crazy.
D) Passive: NEW - Recharging: After being supercharged, Ryze's body is exhausted from overusing the arcane arts. Ryze cannot be supercharged for the next 8-10 seconds, but can still build 1 more arcane mastery stack every 2 seconds.
-Ryze is really strong while he's supercharged, this may not be a neccessary nerf now, but maybe someday. Ryze wouldn't even be viable if you did this right now. This idea is just to highlight ryze's weakness after spellcasting, if you guys ever make ryze even more broken.
Spells Discussion (Non-ultimates): I think his QW and E are fine where they are, but since we're really adamant about nerfing ryze's. So, here's my grand solution. Half the cost cooldown and damage of all of ryze's spells. This goes with Passive Discussion C). As for specifics on the mr reduction on e, I think it should remain the same, but I think the snare should be halved while his passive isn't up, and doubled while his passive is up (while ryze is supercharged). Additionally it does nerf ryze's damage while not nerfing by making it so his first few spells don't hurt as much.
What I mean by double during passive means double the half, so half of Ryze's CURRENT damage on spells while not supercharged, then his spells do his CURRENT damage while supercharged.
-The idea is it stops a fed ryze from 70-0ing a squishy just by pressing qwe at 0 stacks, and actually makes it so he's vulnerable. This way when Arcane Mastery is active and Ryze is super charged, he will still feel the same as he is now. Additionally, lower cooldowns make it easier to stack his passive.
Ultimate discussion: -This needs a complete rework. It's called Desperate Power, but Ryze doesn't seem so desperate when I can cast it over and over again because I can fully reduce it's cooldown in one cycle of being supercharged.
A) Change the name
B) I think having an ultimate's cooldown reduced is really op. Nerf it so it maybe only gains half or none of the cooldown from his mastery.** This is a true nerf, and his win rate is kind of trash right now, so I don't know if you want to do this right away, but I'd reccomend it after he get's balanced out.
C)Change the effect of his ultimate: Ryze actually really needs move speed buff, so we're 100% keeping that, I play ryze, and the games I saved my ultimate, I didn't do as much, but I always made plays with just the move speed buff. The spell vamp and aoe damage is nice, I wouldn't say the spell vamp is necessary, but keep the aoe damage because it's always been there, also because his q is a skill shot and he needs to not hit minions with his q in order to be actually useful. tl;dr: -keep speed buff -keep aoe damage for wave clear so ryze can actually throw q's at champs -spell vamp has always been really nice, but does he really need it?
So in addition to the above: Not affected by supercharged cooldown effects (This way it's actually desperate power) Activates Ryze passive.
-If you do nerf his passive down to 5 spells, this would allow Ryze amazing versatility, whether it be making a snare play with his w, whilst comboing them, or it can let you lengthen your 5 spell combo to 10 (by casting it after you use up your passive), or use it to clear the minions so you can actually hit your q's. For the wave clearing though, we might want to give it additional aoe damage against minions.
