I'm old and it's getting harder and harder to keep up

I've been a long time league player and have been playing consistently. I witnessed a lot of changes over the years and I am the least happiest with the recent additions to the game, by far.

Champions are more complicated and flashier, so much so that I have a hard time keeping up with what is going on during fights. I will list examples:

  • Qiyana flashing in to ult my team against the wall, then get off her combo to blow up someone. 0 indication of what she will do and how it will happen.
  • Senna auto and Q. I really can't tell which is which. I get confused whenever she does her combo. She also hurt a lot.
  • Sylas getting on top on anyone and rotate his whole combo, not much to do except try and live through it.

Soon will come Aphelios with multiple weapons and abilities. I watched my fair share of gameplay to get confused of what he's doing or what to do against him. The switching of weapons and abilities muddle things more than clarify anything.

And so, as I get older, I find myself at mercy of these champions who design seems to be "getting off as much damage within the smallest of window as possible before they can retaliate". I often play tanks since they are durable and I can take time to do things, but it is difficult nowadays to survive anything at all, or be an apparent threat. I don't know which direction Riot is taking this game to, but I would love to ask them to simply slow the game down a bit to give me a chance to keep up. My reaction is not as good as when I was in college a decade ago.

I don't think it's your age that Qiyana can jump in, get her ult on the team and delete the carry. Her indicators and cast times for how her moves work, the visuals are really confusing. She dashes in one direction while firing her Q in another which is then reset because of ANOTHER dash which got an element, so she casts Q again, this time with a stun, then ults which knockups you back and stuns again. Which is buggy as hell as sometimes you are hit with the stun effect and nowhere near the indicator effect.

Meanwhile Zed, I can see and react to the animations, I understand them and what they will do as they have obvious cast times. His ult has an obvious delayed effect and an indicator, he arrives right behind you so you can ready any stun, he has delay damage after so you can zhonyas, shield, heal etc.

My only issue with age is my own mechanics suffering from playing to much ARAM and not being able to output the combo quick enough to get a decent electrocute proc off, I get how the champs work. Might be why I like playing Trundle. Just auto them to death, press R on their tank to not die.

I don't have a problem with keeping up with the mechanics. It's more the level of burst most champions are putting out. Would be a good change if they increased every champion's max health by 25-30% just to give a bit of a buffer so fights can last longer.

Perhaps fortunately for you i do not believe this is a age related case, i am fairly young (weird as it is to say that somehow) and even when i can see those things coming in i can hardly react to them x)

Qiyana´s flash-knockback-ult is almost instant so unless you have the skill to tell when she is about to do this and either flash or use something to the effect of a very fast dash to avoid it then it cant be dodged.

Senna´s Q and auto´s are pretty much the same post some point, no need to really think too much about them i´d say, all you can do is pay attention early and try to dodge it then but it´s basically a Lucian Q on steroids.

Meaning that to dodge it position matters much more than reflexes, that and constantly moving sideways back and forth, and keep in mind that Senna is a monster at short trades because of her 2 hit passive so ideally you go for 1 hit trades or longer ones.....ideally.

Sylas?......Well If he gets on you i dont really think he can get disengages unless he wants to post early game, his gapcloser is really easy to land once you are in melee range unless you are aiming at someone like Fizz/katarina who keep jumping around.

More detailed advice is champion specific for him i´d say.

Age doesn't really matter.

We're all having a difficult time adjusting to the obscene amounts of damage that new champions put out in a short period of time. Even professional league players comment on it frequently. Nobody can keep up with the amount of burst damage that is going around. The champions you pick matter more than it ever has before, and skill doesn't matter as much. I'm sure if you played one of those champions you'd do just as well.

Riot is trying to appeal to a younger generation who have grown up with get in and get out type of games like Fortnite. The Chinese market is only getting bigger as well, and many there generally prefer faster games too.

It sucks because it feels like we're sacrificing the strategy part of this game and are being forced into a stricter meta each season. I'm a support main and I struggled this season to hang on playing as enchanters where as before I never had too much of an issue. This is the first season where assassins consistently were able to bypass me and one shot my carry without me or them being able to react. If they messed up, normally in other seasons we could punish them, but with items like Zhonyas, abilities with invisibility, the dashes, and self-healing they could either turn the fight around anyways or get out without a scratch on them.

I don't play tank supports anymore, but I think it says a lot that the tank supports that aren't viable are tanks like Braum and Alistar and the ones that are is a tank like Nautilus who's hook hitbox is somehow worse than Morgana's Q. You can't really tank damage in the same way that enchanters can't always heal damage or shield it.

OK Boomer, OK I'm kidding lol. Nah it's not your age, this shit is just getting more complicated over time.

How old are you? I know streamers in their mid 30's in Grandmaster. I think this "old" thing isnt really a problem but people like to telling themselves.

I think its because now rito targeting game most to the china players and they like style of,lets call it "fast game"where is 1000 of effects on screen and huge fucking swords.EU,NA ect dont like this hentai stuff so ppls from that regions lose interest . I still cant look those star guardian and other "tousand colour "shit skins.

Also, I think CertainlyT should be fired from riot because of him and his nasty ideas, the game is getting worse amd worse

I only trolled; I mean played, a single game as Sylas but like, he's full skillshot almost. He has to land them if he wants to get on top of ppl.

ThunderCraft12/2/2019, 7:33:59 PM1 votes

i was like you when i was playing tera, i was being cocky and not learning the boss fights as result i was very confused at the game.

LanceTheMighty12/3/2019, 1:27:23 AM1 votes

For Sylas both his E2 and W gap closers put him directly in front of you in prime position for your skillshots. Also while rooted he can't use his E, E2, or W.

Don't worry too much about it, I'm young and it took me like 4 games in the practice tool to figure out how Aphelion works.

Hey mate .. I'm 30 and the only thing that confuses me is why Riot care more about e-spores than the average player who will actually bring therm money.
