Why do we have to play placement games?

Last season I ended in silver 3, i didn't play many games during the preseason, and after placements i was put in bronze 1 after winning 7 out of my 3 placement games. I have no issue with this.

However, i fail to understand why we even have to play the placements. I pretty much feel like my fate was decided regardless of how many i won or loss, like if i went 6-4 or 5-5 i feel like i would still be in bronze 1. I know that a friend of mine was in silver 4 and he went 6-4 and ended up in bronze 1 also.

So my question is this, why do we play placement games? If you all want to have me climb out of bronze, no problem, i can do that, but why make me waste 10 games of playtime. Just put me in bronze one, and i would have 7 wins and 3 losses trying to climb out of bronze.

I think riot realizes that putting too much weight on a few games is silly, because of the typical things that can happen like feeders/leavers etc, but if you aren't going to make placement games impactful in any sort of way, than they seem pointless to be honest.

For the record, I have time for two maybe 3 games a day realistically, and to play 10 games and to win 7 of them just to be placed in bronze 1 is actually really time consuming.

Agreed. Placements should only be for new players. Players from last season should just be autoplaced based on their current MMR instead of wasting their time on a system that already knows where it wants to put you.

I agree with you, mate.

In StarCraft, after a ranked reset, you only have one match to play to be placed into a "division" (SC2 equivalent of leagues). You only play the full placement series for your first time in ranked.

Placements are interesting. I trio with two d5s, i was p4, and they were placed p3 and I was placed G3 even though we won and loss together all 10 placements. Sure it will be super easy to climb since we are already winning at p3+ mmr but still your last season rank has way to much of an effect on placements.

You play them to see how low u gonna be placed. As silver 3, normally should be bronze 2 or 3 if u do good. If u do bad, very bad, u will end up bronze 4 or 5.

It's a ranked reset. A new season starts fresh. If you want to get back to the mmr you were at the previous season, play the game and earn it like you did last year.
