The new "Mid is Open" mentality.

Hello @Riot,

First of all thank you for merging all the forums from different servers in one. EUNE forums weren't as active as others.

Secondly, After you guys changed a lot of things in just one patch it seems it caused a new mentality to rise. I usually spectate alot of high elo games just to watch how pros play LoL. And lately even those guys give up way too early I mean a lot of games are forfeit with in the first 12-15 minutes and you see the team that's behind staying at spawn spot as they tell the opposing team that "Mid is open".

It could be because the new changes/items/masteries made snowballing incredibly easier. For example if any champ with attack speed and/or physical dmg infused into their kit gets a couple of early kills the game is pretty much over. They will be incredibly hard to kill in coordinated ganks of less than 3 (and sometimes 4-5) without losing a team mate in the process thanks to the new mastries that push them even further if they were ahead ( I mean 80 dmg on-hit JUST from mastries? c'mon). Facing a fed champ (ex. yasou, fiora, xin, jax) can get you or you teammate obliterated within one rotation of their skills in addition to how fast they can push towers, clear objectives.

I know late game champs are supposed to be scary later in game but I also know that they shouldnt be able to solo 3 or 4 enemy members as early as lv9.

You might say that the losing team should try to stick together in this case. They should, but the new changes made it risky to even do so. Enter the herald. If you teleport to help, say, a bot lane that is losing hard because you saw their jungler around your top lane you risk giving the enemy the herald, your outer AND inner turrets because of the push power of the herald buff. And what if your teleport gank wasn't successful? then you lose multiple lanes simultaneously. This is even more of a problem if your top/mid dont have teleport. Leaving your lane to gank another can make you lose your own AND the other lane. In essence you are better off trying to win your lane than to help your teammates.

These things make it hard and frustrating to recover from a bad start or to drag the game so you can slowly make your way back into the game which resulted in players giving up way too early.

Sorry for the long post.

they dont give up too early. the problem is the new snowballing mechanics make it almost impossible to come back from an early disadvantage.

especially in higher ranked games, where teams dont make as many mistakes and dont tend to throw a lead almost every 5 minutes like in silver and below.

basically the games may last 30 minutes, but theyre usually decided by 15. a decent team that doesnt make any further mistakes after initially losing the lane phase can delay the inevitable but not make a comeback anymore because the game doesnt give them breathing room anymore to make a play that might get them back on their feet.

thats why 1 side usually just surrenders by 20 minutes instead of pointlessly dragging the game out.

tldr.: the preseason patch sucks dick in almost every aspect. the only thing im personally fine with is the design of the mastery trees, even though the masteries themsleves are bullshit in a lot of places.

to me, "Mid is Open" is an invitation to report that player for AFK and negative attitude. regardless of which side they're on. It's understandable that the game is super snowball lately, but the fact that it's suddenly become a bad thing to be a try hard for yourself is kinda pitiful. you don't have to be a try hard, you just have to play.

I think the Koreans are the source of this and it is just now catching on here.

I think the origins go back to the game of Go, in which is considered rude to continue a game in which you are clearly losing.
