New irelia and possible problems with future fighter design

So I came back to league and decided to play new irelia. I have to say that I am not entirely sure I am a fan of the rework. Overall, I think the direction was fine and the idea was grand. The problem that I have with it is that I feel they added to much to the new kit in terms of difficulty and overcrowded its finished product. If I had to describe it, it feels like they've added a lot of tiny strengths instead of a couple of big strengths.

Well you may be interested in the little design quip surrounding Camille then, who is supposed to be Riot's flag ship for new generation Fighters.

The idea is that in order to avoid the binary nature of older generation melee carries like Tryndamere, Aatrox, or Master Yi, Riot wants to intentionally overload a champion with way more mechanics than at first seems necessary. What this allows then is far more ways to scale back their power without totally dumpstering a champion (for example, reducing Camille's Heal so she can't sustain through Tank matchups Top without radically destroying her trading power against literally everyone else). Try doing this any old melee carry who have very limited mechanics and ways to fine tune them and any one change will radically spike or crash their winrate.

Your observation in that they added a lot of tiny strengths is actually quite spot on. Newer gen Fighters will generally have a "generalist" base loaded with a bunch of mechanics - maybe not overwhelmingly powerful or defining ones, but mechanics nonetheless. In this way, new Irelia should theoretically have far more levers to pull and balance with, and be healthier for the game.
