Thoughts on veigar?
Why is he never played? He doesn't seem that bad....He can one shot literally almost everyone. His q is like the nasus of midlane. I guess my real question is, is he even viable?

Hes very feast or famine.
Yes his late game is amazing, but its really easy to keep him from reaching said point. And when Veigar is behind, he's just an E bot. He has no real damage unless he gets ahead.
After his burst he is nothing meaning the best he can go is 1 kill for his 1 death
I love to play Veigar. Granted, I just turned level 30 and haven't even done my provisionals.
also you said it in OP.
hes the nasus of mid lane. nobody picks nasus either
So basically you guys are telling me that he is either pretty decent or pretty bad?
Nobody picks him anymore because Zed is always in midlane.
Yasuo can block 1/2 of his spells with Windwall, including his ult, and Zed is almost as annoying a matchup for Veigs as Fizz is due to his stupid amount of mobility and 1 target burst, so...not really viable right now, no. He's too easy to counter in general, as long as you play smart, so that's why pros never pick him (unless they're trolling). Not saying that Veig will never win, but if one does, someone on the enemy team really screwed up.
Accidentally fed a Veig as AP mid Annie (playing stupid because I was a bit rusty), got kicked out of lane and had low CS. Focused him in teamfights when he was trying to delete our ADC, he melted like the Wicked Witch of the West in 4 seconds flat. He was able to nuke our Kha'Zix jungle with 1 combo earlier, yet I, who wasn't doing that great, basically wiped the floor with him over and over again. He's too easy to beat to have people regularly pick him.
Hey there! I don't play mid a whole lot, but Veigar's one of my favorites to play it with. He's tons of fun, even if I'm doing badly, but it's pretty rare that I'm not able to turn the tides of teamfights or save allies' lives with his AoE stun and his mass damage potential.
That being said, he's definitely a beginner sort of a champ. His passive allows him to have some strong mana regeneration early on, making staying in lane and managing resources a bit easier. His Q is simple to use and introduces players to the idea of ability stacking. His W is also simple, dealing a high amount of damage in a small area and tries to teach newer players how to anticipate and lead spells. His E is the only utility he has, but it's powerful in it's own right, and his ult gives him an unprecedented advantage against other AP champions.
However, it's because he's so simple that he isn't played terribly often. He lacks any really significant AoE, his W is as close as he gets but it has a kind of wonky waiting period and the actual area of effect isn't that large. He has no utility outside of his stun, which can last for a good while in the late game but is basically only about good enough to let him unload his barrage on one unfortunate soul. His Q is a straightforwards single target nuke, as is his ult but on a more massive scale. Compared to other champs who might not deal as much damage, but can deal damage to more targets at once, he can sort of fall apart as a result once things start getting to the teamfight phases. Eventually he isn't really limited mana-wise, after you build an Archangel's Staff/Seraph's Embrace combined with his passive he's pretty much good to go, but is still limited to his cooldowns. He can make one person hurt REALLY badly and then he has to wait around for his next Q to come off cooldown.
While clever use of his stun can really turn the tide of a fight, and can help him or allies escape tricky situations if used by the right hands, he's not going to bring much else to the table outside of an overhwelming amount of single target damage. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, being able to pick out one person in a teamfight and utterly shut them down without them being able to retaliate, is a very potent ability. But compared to someone else who might be able to deal a bit lesser damage to more targets at once, like a Brand for instance, he just doesn't compare. He lacks the mobility of other AP champions like Akali or Ahri who can do similar feats of picking one person and utterly ruining their day during every team fight that shows up. He doesn't have a shield like Lux or Orianna, so his supportive functions are limited, and he's painfully squishy. A timely Zhonya's can buy you a bit more time between casts of your Q and W but chances are as soon as it the active fades, without your team mopping up around you, you're going to get stomped like so much yordle grape into wine.
All this being said, he falls into something similar to Warwick, or to Yi. Incredibly simple, straightforwards kits that are also incredibly effective at what they do to the exclusion of almost any other attribute. A team that knows how to capitalize on it can make good use of champions like these, but a team who doesn't know how to work around, and with, them can fall behind very quickly with the same wealth of mobility or utility options that other midlaners can bring to the table.
However, I still find him incredibly fun. It's rare that I don't go massively positive with him, even if I lose lane from aggressive early pressure or being camped out by the enemy jungler. Hell, I've even managed to play him as a support and get both myself and the ADC fed, turning myself into the same late game terror you'd expect a Veigar to become. Like Warwick and Yi, playing Veigar is very much about knowing your own limitations and how to work within them to the best of your abilities. Trying to use his stun in unpredictable ways, trying to keep your enemy guessing so they dodge what they think is about to be a W but give you instead an opening to land your Q and then stun them when they try to run, letting you drop your W afterwards. Casting it over walls to save teammates and learning how to hit people directly with it instead of casting it dead center on them so they can avoid getting stunned or flash out of it to avoid your wrath. Keeping your distance as much as possible and learning to land max range abilities so that you have as much room as possible if you need to book it and buy yourself some precious seconds.
He's incredibly effective and can carry a match hard, even if enemies start stacking MR, because he hurts that badly. But if he falls behind he really feels it as he quickly becomes useless outside of some meh amounts of damage that are on cooldowns that do him no favor, and a non targeted stun that's easy to avoid if used incorrectly. There are very easy to see pros, but the cons are a bit more hidden in the fine print when it comes to building team compositions. You don't necessarily need the amount of damage that Veigar puts out to single targets when a bit less damage, maybe a bit more AoE, and a smidgeon more utility, can be much more helpful during teamfights when there's enough damage to go around between you, the ADC, the jungler, and the top laner.
Veigar's fun, but he isn't really going to bring anything to the table that another champion can't bring a little less of, but with a whole lot else besides.
I think he's a great mid laner. He kinda sucks in lane but his late game is terrifying.
I play him a lot. Had a game in which i went 38/8/14 on my second account. Veigar can nuke anyone. Except Fizz. Screw fizz.
The aoe stun is amazing for team fights and you can usually nuke their caster in one rotation and then pop zhonya and pray your team wipes up.
He's not horrible, but he's highly immobile and easy to gang aside from the stun.
he isnt picked often because his power spikes are rather awkward.
if you take an AP runeset, you are committing to a kill lane, which will hurt your late game.
if you take a pen rune set, you are committed to passive farming until you are OP or get a gank.... hoping for that OP late-game that may never come
