How to farm better/Have a higher cs

Hey all, I am VERY low elo, and Out farming your opposition in low elo can win the game. In all my ranked games I've played my cs has been lower than my enemy laners. I don't know why and I always try to focus on it as much as i can, but my farm just isn't ever good. I don't think I miss that many minions... Any tips?

Just watch the enemy creeps' health bar and try to time it in your head (rate of damage that they take) so you can last hit them and take some gold. That is how I grew my CC count skill.

Another fun trick that works is zoning. Basically, you/your enemy have "zones" in which they can do damage in and not do anything outside of that. If you can position yourself in such a way as to pose a threat while neglecting cs for the enemy, you can often gain minor cs advantages which stack up over time and eventually allow you to gain a lead. Same thing applies to the enemy though, as keeping wary of their "zone" and more importantly reading which side they favor can allow you to know which cs is safe and can sometimes allow you to know which side of the map their jg is on.

I like using AD quints and marks to help kill with auto-attacks. Even if you're a mage champion -- if you're csing with autos you might want to just take AD runes anyways. The gold will be better in the end over the 15~25 ap imo.

Consider the difference between the two opposing laner's cs: Will it buy something? When that difference amounts to an item, then there is a material advantage.

You can practice in a custom game. Try to not fight your opponent while you are losing cs. Try to evaluate when to take the last hit and when you should give it up For example if you get the last hit and you lose like 100 hp it wont be worth cause you gonna have to back earlier and you will lose even more cs.

A few points to consider.

  1. Focus on Last Hitting. Don't try to shove the wave until you are more comfortable landing the killing blow. A lot of us rush, and get stuck between attacks while a Minion dies.

  2. Custom Games are great to work on Attack Animation Speed so you can really refine. Also a Stable Ping is very helpful, so getting used to your Ping is crucial. I tend to play on 200+ Ping, so when I get some where with 35 Ping (a great improvement) it takes me about an hour to get used to the improve responsiveness.

  3. CS isn't the only way to get Gold. I can show you a 45 CS Sejuani with 3 Kills and 11 Assists that had more Gold than a Draven that had 248 CS, 4 Kills and 3 Assists. How? A crap ton of Shut Downs and Nuetral Objectives. In other words, if you are having trouble getting CS, DO ensure you are doing other things to get gold. Rotate to Fights as even Assists pay. Jungle close to your lane. Counter Jungle. Drop a Turret. Don't stop making something dead.

Hope these help.

Also, I'm not selling CS short. It IS the easiest way... but if you are falling behind, just trying to CS more isn't going to help. You'll have to use your intelligence to find other methods to get some Gold so you don't find yourself to far behind to catch up.

Keeping an eye on your minions and your enemy's positioning can help. You'll be able to farm better if you avoid getting poked down.

Here's what I did to get good at CSing, which a high elo friend taught me.

  1. Take off all of your runes and masteries
  2. Custom game with no bots
  3. Choose a random champion, they all have different attack speeds, base attack damages, and attack animations Edit: Do not use any spells or level up any of them with passives
  4. Do not buy ANY items
  5. Your goal is to hit 60-70 CS by 10 minutes, if you miss out on your goal, recreate the game
  6. If you hit 60~ CS @ 10 minutes, try to shoot for 120@20 minutes, this is standard CS for high elo games, if not low.

Practice this for 30 minutes a day, preferably before you start playing actual matches; I almost always do a practice round at the start of the day before ranked. It takes some time to kick in, but it will definitely be there once you get into a game. The purpose of no runes/masteries/items/random champion is to get you GOOD at CS, if you can do it without any of these, you can do it much better with them (And after enough practice with that random champion button, you'll be able to do it on almost any champion).

Hope this helped, GLHF
