Gutting is a bad idea
I know the "cool thing" right now is to propose that we "gut" particular champions like Zed or Lucian, but I personally think this sets a bad example. If we end up gutting these champs, we have others that take their place. The gutting continues and more champs come in to take others place. Until we end up with everyone playing all boring champions. Like NURF mode but worse. Instead of just doing the easy thing and gutting a champion, why don't we rework them or change them, or buff others? It is the best and most healthy course, as opposed to gutting a champion that people enjoy playing. For example, we have the Talon. Talon is an AD assassin played mid. Before he got gutted, he was, at least I hear, really hard to play against. He was oppressive and too strong. But, Riot gutted him. And so what took his place? Zed. He was released nearly two years before Talon lost his silence that he was famous for and that pretty much was the last straw. Now guess who the community wants to gut now? Zed. It is an endless cycle of gutting and new "OP" champs. I know this is going to incur lots of wrath from the boards, but I have been sitting on it for a while, and just needed to get it off of my chest.
TL;DR Gutting is bad and we have other options that we do not look at.
