Warwick's q ability

What I've noticed after playing several games as Warwick top lane is that why is Warwick's q treated as an empowered auto attack? No where in the ability description does it say that Warwick's next auto attack will deal bonus dmg. Pretty stupid how Warwick's q is negated when using it while Jax's e is up, being in Shen's w, and under the effect of blind from Teemo's q.

it's not an auto attack, it applies on hit effects if you read it

Basic attacks are not the same as empowered auto-attacks.

My guess is that when they programmed the hold Q to follow/latch on to your target they mimicked basic attack code. Interestingly enough, Shen's W also blocks Heimerdinger turret attacks.
