Best Support for SoloQ?

I just hit level 30, and (DONT WORRY IM NOT JUMPING INTO RANKED) I wanted to get better with some supports.

I currently play alot of Janna, Sona, Bard, and a bit of Soraka.

I'm looking at some other options, such as Nami, Blitzcrank, and Braum.

Can anyone recommend me some good support champions?

I prefer champions that don't really use hooks.. (cough thresh cough) as I feel like its hard to communicate with your team as to how you plan on using it.

Any suggestions?

Your pool of champs is missing any tanks so id recommend getting practice on a couple of those first. Braum or Alistar, possibly Leona are solid picks. New taric is also an option and currently OP, but he is much stronger in a coordinated team and has possible nerfs inc.

You may also want to consider picking up an APC champ to lane bully. If you end up stuck in bronze these tend to be the easiest to win with as you can carry games yourself instead of relying on teammates. I chose annie as she is very simple to play but velkoz is better overall.

Nami's a great support and definitly worth trying, but since you already are strong on janna and soraka, and nami offers similar strengths to them, id advise covering your weakness in your champ pool first before you master her. If you are interested in another AP utility type sup, morgana is a good choice as her black shield offers something unique which can be used to counter hard cc lanes like blitz.

tl:dl braum, alistar, velkoz, morgana

I'd suggest abandoning Sona. She's actually the weakest support in the game and has been for nearly 2 years now. Besides, you already play Bard, who is literally Sona 3.0, he's the better version of the better version of Sona, who is Nami(Sona 2.0).

On that note, you'll find Nami meaningless to learn either, as I just pointed out Bard is the better version of her as well.

Taric, Thresh, Alistar - These are probably some of the stronger picks to choose from right now. Braum works well with certain teammates(like Lucian) and he and Morgana both make strong counters against certain champs. If you can become GREAT with Blitzcrank, he has the potential of being the strongest champ in the game, but contrarily he can also be one of the weakest if you don't play him right.

Usually you don't need to communicate landing a hook. You get a hook, the adc hits them a few times, and they either get away crying or they die. Any adc that doesn't react to a hook being landed should go play top lane.

The 3 best supports for low elo are Blitzcrank, which is a hook and isn't as popular in higher elo's without being good at predictions, Morgana who is an absolute god in the right hands with her long stun and zoning skills when you aren't timing that black shield so well to counter blitz and Leona, the full all-in dive master. Leona can be one of the most aggressive pre-6 champs in the game that can snowball a lane really hard for her adc. Her peel and cc are pretty damn good and her tankiness is always nice when she's diving a backline.

Other than those three, Soraka, Nami and recently Taric have been popular picks for me. I like Nami for her heals and poke as well as good peel. Taric I just like because he works dynamic angles. Imagine Graves short range burst as he dashes in with a charged up stun. Yeah, Taric and graves make a beefy combo to tango with. Even a Cait/Ali combo had issues with us. Speaking of Alistair, he's not bad if you can practice his WQ combo. It takes some time to get perfect. If you can flash+headbutt a squishy into your team at the start of a teamfight then you just got a huge advantage for your team.

I've been spamming Taric with great results, but that's just me. I have another friend who can't get Taric to work for him to save his life. I personally think Morg and Blitzcrank are the best for lower elo's. Spamming blitz isn't bad if you don't mind learning to hook and Morg can counter him if he gets picked against you. Short of Blitz, I'd go Leona and pick Morg into her when she's picked against you. I've ruined Leonas as Morg. They telegraph the dive, I fire a stun towards my adc and freeze her there for my adc to get a running start.

Morgana will carry you to plat easily if you can snipe land Q's in between minions and flash Q properly.

Thanks guys for the replies! I really appreciate it!

I'm probably gonna try out Morgana, her shield seems like something interesting to counter Blitz. (whom I hate)

Thresh is prolly a really good one actually. You want a support that has the possibility of carrying if you got a noob ass team

lux and brand and any caster support are prolly good choices

Janna and Soraka are both excellent supports for Ranked, as they can both make up for a lot of the ADC's mistakes in positioning and Janna in particular can peel very well. Blitz is decent, but only if you're doing well in the game, and Braum is great for engaging fights and protecting your ADC, and I would definitely recommend him if you have a Lucian ADC, as the Lucian Braum lane can be brutal to play against. Bard is great if played at a really high level but he is incredibly easy to mess up on, as one bad ult can easily lose your team the game (I would know, I've done it with him and Kindred). Sona is also pretty good, and can actually carry games herself if she gets fed, but only has one good peel tool (her Ult), which can be easily baited and then counterengaged upon, so I wouldn't really recommend her.

tl;dr: I would recommend Janna and Soraka if you don't want to play Thresh, as they have great peel and can easily make up for your ADC's mistakes.
