On Azir PBE nerfs and His balance

So as Somebody who really loves Azir identity and plays him on a daily basis I'd like to share some of my own thoughts about pbe nerf:

  1. Passive CDR->AS taken. A big NO unless you wan't to make Azir full burst mage and take sustained damage from him. I'll relate to this later

  2. E changes - Biggest nope since eve rework. Why? You're taking out outplay factor from azir's kit. Currently when you have 100 hp and lb is about to dive you you can outplay her with your e and kill her. Taking shield and knockup form e takes all outplay factor from it and makes it pure movement/escape spell.

  3. The general point of nerfs.

I feel like balance team doesn't play azir at all. Those changes don't even touch his problems, they just gut him so that when Riot realises what's wrong with him he'll be useless.

What is wrong with him then?

Azir was made as a puppeteer who controls his soliders to do damage with weak early game and strong late game dmg. Currently his main damage combo is W->Q because q deals SHITLOADS of damage and he is a medicore lane bully.

So what is his problem? It's hos q damage. His q is solely what makes him bursty ap mage instead of sustained damage dealer.

The changes should adress that:

Q: flat damage: 65\85\105\125\145 - > 45/65/85/105/125. Ap ratio 0.5 -> 0.25(or lower). CD 10/9/8/7/6 -> 8/7/6/5/4

Reasoning? His q while still dealing damage( allowing some harass in lane), should be a utility spell used to position his soliders instead of dealing damage. Also to relate to his current passive change: Along with W and Q changes this would make itemising CDR on him core to allow him to resposition his soliders during the fight, While allowing him to gain some power.

W: ap ratio 0.6 -->/0.6/0.65/0.7/0.75/0.8 -> this change shifts most of his damage into solider attacks making him a powerfull sustained damage dealer, while keeping his early dmg weak. hell it can even be 0.4/0.5/0.6/0.7/0.8 per w level So that he can be punished for example by picking Ryze vs him since he won't be able to punish ryze's early game( like ryze picked into runeglaive ez by Faker in Anarchy vs SKT T1 match)

E: Base dmg: 60/80/100/120/150 Ap ratio 0.4 --> 0.2(or lower) but Shield ratio gains additionally 0.1 Ap ratio --> This makes his E utility defensive last resort spell as it should be instead of "IM GOING INSEC" as it currently is.

R: Based dmg 150/225/300 --> 125/200/300 Another nerf to his a bit too oppresive early all-ins.

I'm not saying all those changes should be implemented. Those are just my own propositions with explanation of what is Azir's real problem. I'd really apprecieate some Rioter's response explaining his thinking for his changes.

I love it as long as you don't remove the knockup on his E like riot wants to do, as E into R is the only way he can stop an enemy from retreating.

I also love the ratio buff to his W :D

Did you not notice that the attack speed buff was moved over to his W?

The fact that you no longer need to build CDR to gain the AS buff is a substantial buff to his early/mid game power - a rank 3 W at level 10 = 30% AS, or the equivalent of having to build 24% CDR by that point in the game.

Removing both the knockup and shield off his shifting sands is probably a little too harsh, but Riot has to lobotomize his kit somewhere, it's overloaded enough as it is.

I don't see the logic in this potential nerf...

I don't play Azir, but can respect that he is THE most technically challenging champion in the game! A champ that requires that level of training and timing should be strong if played right! (Believe me, I've STOMPED a lot of people who play him bad... :P )

What truly annoys me about this, is that this guy is getting gutted, While the "Her-de-her" mid lane face-roll squad of Annie Katarina Zed , continue to get love tap nerfs or go completely un-touched!

Seriously, I don't know what they're balance team is thinking over there!

I believe the change to his E was to do just what you said, make him less likely to just turn and burst people who are trying to assassinate him, and use it more as an escape tool.

However, they went a little far with it, I'd say if they remove the shield and knock up, make him able to pass through people.

but the only thing that i would like to note here azir doesnt need more late game damage ... in fact im not even sure if he needs that soldier range this much

what azir needs is to have less impactfull q early ... or rather his q to be solidified as a tool for repositioning his soldiers instead of an actual damage spell
