Is it just me, or is Elise's rappel really weird? I have smartcast on, and when I try to E Elise walks to the ground target, THEN rappels, then hold on for a bit before coming down. Why doesn't she just rappel where she is?
Happened to me once. I thought it was my keyboard but hey, maybe it's not my keyboard after all.
Edit: wait, you not talking about selecting a foe and not getting to him? if not, you just dont know how to rappel which means... it may still be my keyboard.
You are meant to target while she's in the air, no?
No, I mean that with most skills if you click in the direction you use the skill in that direction, regardless if you're literally on the ground target. Rappel is just weird and different. I know to target who I want to land on in midair.
Oh and another thing related to your concerns:
You said you are using her with smart cast. I know the problem (i think) - When you are on smart cast mode, you gotta BE SURE the target is in rappels range. Another thing: when you clicked, you did not press E properly. Which could explain why she just walked, but then again, she still rappel once she arrived at the spot - fun explanation: you let your finger pressing the E key.
I think Riot did something to it a while back that messed it up - that or my time not playing her just made it feel weird last time I played her. Sometimes I click on a minion and it acts as though I clicked on the ground, other times I click on the ground and it goes to a minion, sometimes it just doesn't respond to my clicks at all.
Rappels always been gross Iirc they tried to fix it, but it didn't really work. I guess they just stopped trying
