My concerns with the new Runes so far.

Ok sure but why·11/15/2017, 3:49:41 AM·1 votes·245 views

I posted this in the "Let's Discuss" post that's pinned, but let's face it. I ain't getting noticed, there. Especially since all the "Please buff the tanks some more!!!!" comments are taking precedence. Anyhow, here you go.

I have three bigger concerns and a few almost-as-big concerns.

The new "Press the attack" keystone is just the keystone version of the previous "Expose Weakness" mastery supports used to take so their ADC could use a mastery that benefited them. I really think that a rune like that should go somewhere in the Inspiration page for actual supports to utilise and clear the Precision rune path for something that would solely benefit the user and not the team. I miss the bonus AD already. Bonus attack speed via Lethal Tempo is alright, but since it's basically replacing the AD gained from Fervor of Battle, it's practically an indirect buff for Thornmail against ADC's. That's not very fun.

And Revitalise really shouldn't be on the Resolve tree. Tanks don't prioritise healing, and healers don't prioritise building tanky. They don't coexist all the time. Healers want to build utility and AP, which means Inspiration and Sorcery are main choices, especially with that lovely Transcendence rune. Revitalise is another rune that really should go onto the Inspiration tree, since it's a rune based on utility. If not, use it to replace Scorch! It's a pathetic rune that pales in comparison to Gathering Storm and Waterwalking.

Guardian is like Yasuo's shield, but on a 45-second cooldown. All that effort for a support, just for it to get negated by one Ezreal q and sent back on cooldown for another 45 seconds. On Yasuo, it's fine, because it's a part of his kit that both players and rivals have to work with and around. If Guardian is a choice for any champion to either have or not have, the choice is clear. I think you should change this rune entirely. How about something like, "If a nearby champion takes 50% of their health as damage, you gain X% damage reduction and taunt nearby enemies for X seconds?" That would be cool AND necessary for tank-supports, and it would have good synergy with Font of Life.

Now the smaller concerns:

Mages don't have any sustained damage runes anymore, now that Deathfire's Grasp was replaced with something so menial and mediocre as Scorch. So basically everything Singed, Brand, Swain, etc. could do before has suddenly become much... weaker, to say the least. I think the Sorcery keystone "Summon Aery" should do damage over time (Or heals/shields over time) to a single target, and only start coming back a a second after you stop applying damage (or heals/shields) to the champ with your other abilities/effects. That would at least be a start to compensate, no matter how dearly the old Deathfire's Grasp will still be missed.

Scorch, Cheap Shot, Iron Skin, Mirror Shell and Celestial Body are just... bad.

  • In a game where tanks have 3000+ health, and where people with less than 2000 health pop like balloons, such small amounts of damage from Scorch and Cheap Shot are almost comical to see actually being used in combat.
  • And Iron Skin and Mirror Shell may not be bad bad, but they're literally only a third as good as Conditioning, which gets MORE of BOTH stats by doing NOTHING but waiting ten minutes. -Celestial body? What kind of support on the Inspiration path would prefer an extra 100 health over 5% CDR everywhere?

Approach Velocity has the same problem as Celestial Body and would be a more suitable Resolve rune than an Inspiration rune, and I think it would be nice to switch around with Revitalise. But rearrange it so healer supports can use both Revitalise AND Cosmic Insight.

Basically, a lot of runes that benefit certain champions have been arranged so those certain champions can't utilise them all anymore. It kinda hurts.
