why cant everyone have 20 ping min?

awwk·2/21/2017, 8:17:10 PM·1 votes·2,092 views

I have no lag and have always sat at a constant 70-77

my buddy plays a constant 20 and if he lags 50..

We 1v1 all the time to practice mechanics and what not but he is always faster.. he claims its the 20 ping and i figured it was just my skill. So i looked into it more and apprently koreans play at 10 ping all the time! which is insane..

things like gp barrels, riven, yas, and few other high machanic champs people who play at 10-20 ping are at an advantage no matter how good your equipment is :/

can riot fix this? they make millions every year... so set up a contract, sign some papers, and lets get everyone playing at a fair advantage please..

South Korea is roughly the size of Indiana. If the servers were in Indiana, and we all lived in Indiana, we'd all have sub-10 ping, too.

They've already done more than any other company has - https://engineering.riotgames.com/news/fixing-internet-real-time-applications-part-iii

Ping is a measure of how long it takes your computer to send a message to Riot's server (and for the return trip). It's not something they can fix by throwing more servers in their server room or by changing some lines of code, they basically need to re-build the internet to reduce your ping.

Korea has such low ping because it's roughly the size of one state inside the United States. If each state had it's own server instead of one combined NA server you'd see similar pings to Korea.

Ping is mostly location and ISP based.

For everyone to have 20 ping. They would need more servers. They already moves it to Chicago to kinda balance everything out.

I was playing at 100 ping when they were hosting in Cali, but now I am down to 40.

People in Cali play with 40-50 ping. The only people that get super low ping are the ones right near Chicago.

Part of the ping calculations is based on distance from the server. Servers were moved to mid U.S. to facilitate that but fact of the matter with a much lower population density than Korea; the United States will always have hire ping for people away from the server.

That being said -- .05 of a second is not the reason to miss on GP's barrels -- human reaction isn't that fast. The standard human reaction time is 0.215 seconds so as long as you're playing below 100 ping for planned responses -- you will be just fine.

Limitations of reality.

Try playing cs go at 70 ping and 10 ping

A lot of the issue is the north american network infrastructure in general. The major isp's here like to throttle your internet so that they don't have to pay to upgrade their networks to provide consistent latency and they even throttle it way too much so that they can force people to pay for more bandwidth.

In other words, greedy companies are making your ping worse than it would be without them, which was already bad.

the ping isnt all on riot ... alot of it is on your ISP

Ping is based on distance from the server and the connection method. So no, they simply cant give everyone 20 ping. They did move the servers to Chicago though a while back since east coast players had ping averages of 150+ and west coast players had 30 as being an extremely high ping.

When Korea put in their internet infrastructure they thought of such things. NA didn't. Depending on how far you are from the server and how many ISPs you have to route through you'll have higher ping. Riot already moved the server further east (it used to be in Cali) in order to even out peoples' ping. They also worked with the ISPs individually to get priority for League packets. Not much else they can do.
