Good in norms, but when to go to Ranked?

I've been able to keep my winrate consistently between 60-70% in my last 40 games for almost two weeks now, but this is in norms. Ranked is, I'm sure, a whole other beast. When should I try it, really? And should I focus on myself, or the team?

In norms I just sort of gel with the team and pick something I think we'll need (tank if we lack frontline, adc if needed, mage if we're all ad, etc.). In ranked, should I keep this up? Or should I just pick what I'm sure I'll win with, and go for a carry champ?

Tips would be appreciated!

First of all most people have higher winrates in normals than ranked due to the fact that people are much more likely to be trying new things out in normals and actual mmr and rank doesn't have as much of an impact on the game.

Besides that, the best way to climb is to master ONE champion typically in ONE role. Does it have to be a carry champion? No not necessarily, you can get to challenger maining soraka if you're good enough.

Here's a few tips:

  1. Don't play ANY role that you're not 100% on. This means DO NOT under any circumstances trade roles with another player just because they got autofilled.
  2. This leads to my second point. Learn how to dodge strategically. If you get autofilled then dodge. You only lose 3 LP for the first dodge. Look up your teammates, if they're first timing a champion in ranked then dodge unless you're 100% sure you can carry them, most of the time you won't be able to though if you're in an elo where you belong.
  3. Be a meta slave to an extent. Sure we've all heard the stories of that one guy who got to challenger playing mid Soraka full ad but these cases are exceedingly rare. Play a champ in a role they're meant to be played and try to build them how they're meant to be built. This doesn't mean you shouldn't adjust your build per game.
  4. If you're playing a carry role or champion forget about your teammates. This includes support, if you're playing Brand support then you aren't "ksing" when you get kills. Obviously don't ks if you're playing someone like Janna though.
  5. /Mute all. By this I mean don't communicate by typing if you can help it. Pings are good enough. Personally I prefer to just mute all of my teammates. No pertinent information ever comes from talking to your teammates that you can't communicate through pings.

Obviously there's more and I'm no pro player but these are just what comes to my mind when I think about ranked solo q. I've gotten a few accounts to high plat just playing support this season if that means anything.

It’s pretty simple, play your own game and focus on your own play rather than your team.

Play a few draft games. Get a feel for what it's like to play in Silver. If you feel confident then start playing ranked afterwards.
