It's about time someone filled in for Riot.
I don't know if Riot is too busy to dedicate to making lore for new champions, but nonetheless I promised that if I didn't see a good lore for Ekko, I'm going to make one. So, here it goes...
Shattered.
Everything was shattered.
Ever since he left, it all fell apart. The gang broke up, most of them dead or missing in action.
So he decided to just let everything go and focus on his goal.
I will shatter time, Ekko thought. And I have nothing to lose from it.
First, came the planar discombobulator. Similar to how it was the power source for the Zero Drive, it was the source of his drive as well. Ekko had lost everything. The one he loved had been mentally broken. His entire group of friends were disbanded, and he was the only one left.
Next came the circumrotational particle re-stabilizer. To the Zero Drive, it was what kept it from disintegrating during the process of rewinding. To Ekko, it was what kept him from quitting in the midst of his tireless work. It was the 13th day already, and only half the machine was finished. But nothing would stop Ekko. He had all the time in the world.
Third came the re-directional power feed. It made the machine self-powering, and filled Ekko with hope. Hope for the future of Zaun.
Finally, the casing. It was what contained the brittle machinery in its tough exterior. It also represented the hard exterior of his heart that protected his fragile feelings. Feelings he had learned to tuck away while he worked. Feelings he had learned were what made him human, and not a heartless monster like most of what Zaun had become.
Picking up the Zero Drive, Ekko strapped it to his back, fitting the remote watch on his hand. Grasping the lever on the end of the chain of the Zero Drive, Ekko hesitated before he pulled the beaded chain he had gotten from a wealthy Zaunite's window blinds.
For us.
Ekko pulled the chain, and it easily came out as the mechanism roared to life. Electricity arced all over Ekko, as the moments he spent hesitating were re-lived. Hesitation he saw as wasted time. Wasted time that was about to be spent better.
Finally, I will fix everything. All of our mistakes, all of our misfortunes... I will change it all!
This last thought was interrupted as the machine stopped. Ekko's remote watch was on his work table. His hand was still holding out the chain.
What...?
Ekko released the chain. Confused, he pulled it out again. The machine spun, but nothing happened.
How...? All that work! All those calculations! How did it break?!?
Ekko picked up the Zero Drive and placed it on the work table. He inspected it, the mechanism, the parts, everything. Nothing was changed. He strapped the machine back on his back, preparing to pull the chain again.
It must be a minor fluke. It should work this time!
Ekko pulled the chain. Electricity arced again. But only for a second.
This... can't be...
Ekko fell to his knees, defeated.
I can't do it... I can't save any of them... Jinnie, Vicky, Cander... everybody is gone forever...
Ekko looked up at the mural on the wall. A reminder of better days.
But also, Ekko thought, a sign that... nothing stays the same.
Ekko rose to his feet. Fitting his remote watch on his wrist and picking up the sword he made prior to the Zero Drive, his eyes turned from an expression of regret to determination. He looked at the resonance blade he created, its power source being the Zero Drive itself. He then glanced at the number he had etched into the cross hilt. XII. The number he himself had been given when the gang were all together.
The best of times may be over for us, but our future has hope. I will make every single second count.
Ekko opened the secret panel door only the residents of their hideout knew about.
It's time to correct the past and create the future. No matter how many tries it takes.
