The problem I have with Fan Creation threads...discussion appreciated.

As someone who is studying for game design I appreciate the chance to come up with concepts that could be feasible within the game but I feel like it is completely ignored. I have been through the thread numerous times and I see a lot of really good potential champions here and I know that RIOT doesn't want to have legal issues taking too much content from someone else, but there seems to be no feedback at all from any of the RIOTers.

I'm not asking for RIOT to start using many of these ideas but some kind of presence is really nice. I just feel like they opened the thread and said "here you go, I'll be elsewhere".

Plz give your feelings on this.

Riot always said following

Welcome to the Player Concepts forum! This forum is a creative outlet for the many talented summoners who wish to flex their skills and have other summoners provide feedback. The goal should not be to have Riot take your idea and put it into the game. The goal is to grow your own ability to design within the creative space that is the League of Legends.

What you'll find here is a community thriving on constructive feedback and personal drive to improve. You'll see a wide range of champion concepts posted by your fellow summoners here. By all means, step in and provide your thoughts on the concepts of others in a helpful way. When you have your own concept, you'll find that the goodwill you create in doing so will inspire others to help you as well.

Summary: I'm a Custom Champion Designer since exact one year. I've created over 35 Champions.

Riot never uses direct Champions, only inspiration. There was once a reaper with a great scythe who's stats and skills increases by the souls of the fallen enemies. That was, when I recall right, a 2011 Concept. 2 years later, 2013 Thresh was released.

Riot always watches to get some inspiration. Some rarely response to Custom Champion threads, that's why it is a honor to have one in your thread, because you got the honor that a Rioter likes your Champion.

Oh and one fact.. If Riot decided to take directly Champions, how will they decide? Lets say Riot wants a skeleton champion, but 80% of the community says "NAY!", what then? There would be a war between community and rioters. I think Riot as it is does it right.

The reason I feel saddened isn't because they don't use or get inspired by the community. The part that saddens me is that (with few exceptions) the reds never come through and say a thing. It would be nice to see "cool idea" once and a while from someone with a color in their name. I'm not discrediting the input from the community because some members are more than qualified to give the input (some more so than reds) but it would be nice to SEE that the reds come through here.

Most of the time I feel like they set up the swing set then left it in the yard without ever giving it another look.

Some Rioters are nice enough to say hi on champion creation threads.
Usually, they're like "cool concept" or "I could see myself playing him/her".
I really appreciate that ^^

To respond to your thread's content, many champion and skin designs have come from the community. Often, though, they don't come only from the community - instead they're inspired by a lot of different things (for example, Braum was inspired, in part, by a community creation, "Angus, the Manly Man"). However, the number of champions that Riot they can actually make is limited, just because of their resources.

Second, it seems like your problem is with Riot (which doesn't need to be in all capitals, it just makes the thread seem harsher), not with Fan Creations threads.

Sometimes they borrow ideas. I recall a while ago I made a champion (Years ago, it probably isn't there anymore) who used a massive anchor to swing and beat people down. About a year or so later, Nautilus got released. Same weapon, entirely different kit, entirely different appearance.

Does this mean that Riot "stole my idea" for an anchor weapon? Not one bit. Archtypes and similarities exist for a reason. You're certainly not the only person who came up with, say, skeletal knight or medieval witch doctor. Does this mean Riot is ALWAYS original? Again, no (Though it's a poor choice of words on my part). Riot is always looking for inspiration and making champion concepts from some of the best the community has to offer.

Case and Point: Braum was definitely inspired by angus, a joke concept made several years ago.

One thing to always keep in mind is that the MOMENT you make a concept, you're forfeiting rights. Theoretically if you made something so amazing that Riot 100% wanted it right stat now, they could use it without giving you a dime. It's one of those legal things to prevent someone from going "oh hey you stole my concept."

But this isn't about taking concepts, stealing money, whatever. If you make concepts because you want to make money, that's a terrible plan. You should make them to make yourself happy and gain experience in doing so. If your concept gets used? Awesome, add that to a resume when applying to be a champion designer or community lead. If not? Oh well, at least you made something unique.

Your goal should never be "I want Riot to use this". Your goal should be "I want to make something for the community that people enjoy."
