[Champion Concept] Lancel, The Brave Companion
Hello all, not long ago someone made a thread asking for cool character concepts. I took this as a chance to try and see what kind of character I could come up with. So here is the post I ended up submitting (gonna copy/paste). I hope you guys like my concept and if you would like to share what you think about it feel free!
Warning: long post
How about a yordle who thematically matches a squire type character. He uses a sword that's too big for him (even though he won't admit it) while doing what he can to one day become a great warrior under the tutelage of his mentor. Specializes in roaming, giving his team an item advantage, and also being able to defend himself through his (less than) honed battle skills.
I will put together a skill description then follow that up with any extra information to give you an idea about how a skill would be used or my reasoning behind certain skills.
Lancel, The Brave Companion
-Passive (Squire! Attend me!)- Lancel may give or sell items to his teammates. If the item cannot be afforded then no trade will occur. Lancel also has increased gold generation.
**this is a thematic skill, but a character defining one as well. This skill works a couple different ways.
Lancel is able to give a purchased item to a teammate by drag-and-dropping it on his ally, but his teammate is also able to purchase his items (Lancel is not forced to "sell" an item at any time). The gold an ally spends on Lancel's inventory goes to his gold reserves. Would require new tech for him to give items, but might only need to do a small amount of work to the shop access rules to make him a "mobile merchant" with limited inventory.
**This gives Lancel's team a few tactical options such as:
funneling Lancel's gold into an already succeeding character by giving items allowing a teammate to stay in the field longer by purchasing his items for him then trading if doing well, helping an under-performing ally by keeping him up to par by giving items
**I feel like this ability has an appropriate trade off for its benefits by being a large gold investment on Lancel's part. If he's buying an item for a teammate, he's not buying one for himself. Even if he trades with his teammate, he would still have to go back to base to buy his own item.
-Q (Back off!)- Lancel swings his sword in an arc in front of him. Enemy champions struck will be stunned for a short duration. Struck champions cannot be stunned again for a period of time. Failing to hit an enemy unit with this skill stuns Lancel instead. (think sword too heavy to recover from the "wiff". This is a low cooldown ability)
** this ability gives Lancel some breathing room as far as team role is concerned. Mostly meant to be a jungle clearing ability, it can be used in a support role since it brings a level 1 stun. Punishes missing so be careful.
-W (On my way)- (toggle) Lancel's movement speed is greatly increased, but receiving damage will stun him.
**Lancel needs to be on the move, either ganking or delivering items. This helps him do it. The speed boost would be substantial so I added in a punishment for using this during combat as an initiation source.
-E (Hope this works)- Lancel throws his sword forward (skill shot). Enemy units struck are immobilized. (Q and E) cannot be used again until Lancel retrieves his weapon or the cooldown time has passed.
** I'm not really happy with this ability but this is a first draft, so I'll stick with it for now.
**Another gank/cc source. The trick is that it makes your Q unavailable until you pick up your weapon or the E cooldown has ended, so if you want to follow up with your team you're gonna have to earn it.
-R (Moment of greatness)- for X seconds, (Q) swings in a 360 degree arc, (W) no longer has a penalty for being struck, and Lancel gains a portion of the stats of all items he has given to his teammates.
** Here's the ultimate. It gives you some options on how you want to play Lancel. You can either spend your time giving/trading items to your friends (and as a result are probably stretched thin on combat stats) and pop this to make you a decent threat, or you can just keep all your gold to yourself and use this as a skill steroid alone. Ideally, the change to his abilities gives him a role as an initiator or at least a strong 1-2 punch in a teamfight. The rotation would be something like :
R (skill bonuses) → E (teamwide immobilize) → W (speed based initiation into an, at this point, immobile team) → pick up sword → Q the entire group for an aoe stun.
Well there it is, probably way too thematic but I had fun making the kit. Hope you guys liked some of the ideas and feel free to leave feedback!
