Yet Another WIP Champion: Riordan, The Blacksmith at Arms

PyroAeroVampire·10/29/2013, 5:18:29 AM·1 votes·1,133 views

Originally thought up this champion as a thank you to the guys from Man At Arms for creating a real life Zenith Blade.

Note: When I mention 'Direct AoE,' it means it is an area directly around the champion in specific. Examples, Alistar's Pulverize, Amumu's Despair, Karthus' Defile, Etc.

Passive: Diverse Metal

After ten basic attacks, Riordan's next basic attack will strike the target for 120% damage and slow by 15% for 3 seconds.

Q: Aerial Slashers {Directional} [Range 700]

Throws three knives, each as a seperate skillshot one after the next, in a single direction, dealing damage to the first enemy hit.

Damage per Knife - 40/65/90/115/130 (+0.3 Bonus AD)

Cooldown - 7 seconds

Mana Cost - 60/65/70/75/80

W: Tempered Steel {Non-Toggle Passive}

Passive 1: Gives Riordan a small percentage AD bonus.

Passive 2: When Riordan kills an enemy with a basic attack, he will permanently gain maximum mana. Amount doubled for large minions, monsters, and champions.

Passive 1 % Bonus: 5 Percent

Passive 2 Mana Increase:0.3/0.4/0.5/0.6/0.7

E: Heavy Flail {Direct AoE} [Range: Inner: 0-300, Outer: 300-500]

Swings a massive flail around himself, dealing damage to all enemies in the outer circle. Enemies in the inner circle take half damage and are stunned for 1.5 seconds.

Damage: 80/125/170/215/250 (+0.6 Bonus AD)

Cooldown: 11/10/9/8/7

Mana Cost: 70/80/90/100/110

R: Scrap Metal Tomahawk {Enemy Target} [Range: 650]

Passive: This ability is not affected by Cooldown Reduction. Every 15 seconds, Riordan finds enough scrap to forge a Scrap Metal Tomahawk. Can have 3 at any given time. If, when thrown, Riordan kills the unit with a Scrap Metal Tomahawk, he can walk over the body over the next 4 seconds to automatically ready a Scrap Metal Tomahawk.

Active: Throws one of his Tomahawks at an enemy for physical damage. Ignores a small portion of his targets armor. A single ax can be used only once every 4.5 seconds. This is not effected by Cooldown Reduction.

Damage: 130/195/260 (+0.5 Bonus AD)

Armor Ignore: 15/20/25

Mana Cost: 100/115/130

Role: Is used against a great lane potential carry (Draven, Jinx, Cait, Etc.) and to find the squishy back line in a teamfight.

Lore: Although his shop lies in the heart of Noxus, Riordan shows no allegiance towards his hometown. As a young boy, he had always been fascinated by the blacksmith. The ability to create weapons was a great adventure to him, always dreamed of one day becoming a famed blacksmith who many sought to find. His dreams were almost destroyed when he was taken in the night by a Noxian military general and forced into it's army program. After many months, he confronted and killed the general that forced him there. He fled afterward.

Hoping his deeds had been redeemed he opened a small blacksmith shop in the heart of his homeland and has crafted the finest blades known to man; Garen's own sword, both Darius' and Draven's axes. His ancestors were even believed to have carved Avarosa's True Ice Bow and The Solari Armor. He now wishes to show the world the ability he has with a blade himself, and to show no mercy, no matter where they come from.

There. All I can think of at the moment. I had a sheet with stats on it, but I am unsure of it's current location. Once i find it, I'll put resonable stats up and maybe tweak abilities accordingly. I do know I had a much better passive, as this one is basically a shitty copy of Caitlyn's, so you can be expecting a better passive in the near future.

EDIT: I've changed the passive to seem less useless. It will, though, have the same name.

Passive: Diverse Blades

Every second consecutive basic attack to the same enemy champion will add a stack of Grindstone. There can only be one on a champion at a time. The next ability to strike the enemy will have a bonus effect and consume the Grindstone debuff. Grindstone lasts 5 seconds.

Aerial Slashers: The first knife to hit the champion afflicted with Grindstone will deal 75% extra damage.

Heavy Flail: Inner Circle will deal full damage. Outer Circle will instead deal 125% magic damage and slow both movement speed and attack speed by 20% for 2 seconds.

Scrap Metal Tomahawk: Will not have a mana cost upon use.

Also, I've changed the amount of time between Scrap Metal Tomahawks to 5.5 seconds and the total cooldown to get another Tomahawk to 35/30/25 seconds.

Two problems.

First, your passive is almost useless in early. You need to hit 10 times before you deal a bonus of 20% damage and slow the target. Change it to every 4th basic attack and/or basic ability. Since your Concept is more a AD Caster and not a AS-Steroid ADC, a 10 hit restricted passive is pretty useless there.

Second, your ultimate. I see that you made this as an lock-on skill instead of a skillshot. You should change it to a skillshot, to offer more counterplay against that huge damage. 3x 260 + 3x 0.5 bonus AD.. pretty annoying to fight against.

And better change the time for the scrap metal. For early, the best would be 45 seconds, then later 30 seconds and then on late game 15 seconds. Why? On early, this ability can be pretty awful, spamming it 3 times or when you're good at it, even 4 times and more, since you can grab it up again. On late, this ability is really important and it needs to be ready like all the time in teamfights.

In terms of lore, he seems pretty cool. I don't really understand why he's made both Garen's sword and the Blood Brothers' weapons though. How did he manage to get both of those jobs?

Gameplay wise, he seems okay. His W is extremely boring, and it feels like he doesn't need it at all, since he doesn't seem to have terrible mana issues and doesn't scale off of mana. Plus it doesn't have any kind of interaction with it besides farming minions. You might want to look at this.

His ult doesn't seem particularly gamebreaking, but it also doesn't feel very fun to use. I suppose it does the job, but maybe you could find a way to make this feel better?

I like the idea that the champ is designed to do damage to people in the back despite his front line kit (he is melee, I assume?). His damage doesn't seem so crazy that it would be a problem either. His passive is interesting, but it doesn't help his goal of hurting the back from a distance since he'd have to be up close to use it.
