A guide to pick 'em for someone who doesn't care about esports?

I just want the icons, I don't need to be perfect. But I don't follow or care about esports at all, so I don't know who's good or bad. Anyone wanna give me a bit of help to get the icons?

I remember last year I flopped every group but I was expecting upsets for the most part. If it's Icons you're looking for, just do your best on the prediction game for Groups then mostly just follow common trends; you almost can't fail that unless upsets still happen. Like MysterQ has already elaborated on, I'll add a bit more to that.

  • You can never go wrong with the Korean Teams (Samsung, Longzhu, SK Telecom). Decorated top teams in the world who will get the job done. A time where the stats don't lie; rarely ever missing out on the Knockout Stage and going relatively far in that sense as well. If you definitely need the dirty points to get to 34, it's through Knockout Stage (I wound up doing that last year like I said - I was desperate and just made 34 off the "bet on Koreans/SKT" train). For Groups, no problem placing them all 1st - it's too expected of them.

  • Your 2nd and 3rd for each group is where the real challenge starts. Upsets can happen. And luckily you still get some points for an approximate guess (0 if you're just outright wrong - it has happened to me). Groups with Chinese Teams (Team WE, Royal, and Edward Gaming) while I do tout them as the most wildcard a major region can get in terms of "ceiling and floor" performances are the safest bet for the 2nd position.

  • 3rd Place is a vote of who does well enough to not croak in your opinion. And historically, that has the remaining three regions in Europe, North America, and the LMS filling in for that spot. Once again strength of group plays a key factor in this along with Worlds/International Experience. Going off of the list, a few teams you could slot in here would be Cloud 9, Immortals, G2 eSports, or Flash Wolves.

  • Group D however does have a different taste compared to the rest of the groups with no Chinese or Korean team. For this group it's about relative reputation. Team WE and TSM are the two that stand out the most. Hence why I place Flash Wolves as a safe 3rd. But be wary: TSM fails to live up to Riot-International relevance. But if you have confidence in the front-bearers of NA then have at it.

  • The 4th place teams are usually teams that have a weakened look in them coming into the tournament, fresh teams who have never seen the international spotlight, or the Minor Region teams (still commonly referred to as Wildcards). AHQ, Gigabyte Marines, Fenerbache, and Misfits are the unfortunate cannon fodder that sees this realm of possibility over the rest.

The League Reddit has a group of its own that is competing and comparing. This might be a good place to look into others opinions if you're still anxious.

I googled "League of Legends betting market" and I'm using the odds from that as my power rankings (worse payout means a perception of a stronger team).

These things are based on people willing to do more research than me to try and predict the winner, and they're actually putting their money where their mouths are.

Koreans - Samsung Galaxy, Longzhu, SKT T1 likely to advanced %%%%%%%% - WE, RNG, EDG likely to advanced but may drop a team in a bracket Everyone else Small Regions - AHQ, Flashwoves, Fenerbache, GAM would not place highly although they have done well in the past (FW).

IMO just don't do pick em. This is for actual esports fans to speculate who's gonna win. What does the icon get you? No point doing it if you got no idea since copying is just not gonna work. I will say putting Fnc over IMT, MSF over FW and RNG over Samsung is bold
