Soraka: The Chinese way

Since the most recent Soraka ability overhaul on patch 4.17, few have meddled with her, but the increased range for Astral Blessing on Patch 4.20 opened up her use in Chinese offseason tournaments. Soraka was used in three prominent series by three different support players, some of who rocked the ‘raka and some who didn’t. Since dragons became a prominent force, Soraka’s level six power spike has looked attractive. For Chinese teams, Soraka is a double-edged sword. She’s exceptionally useful in extended team fights for her ability to reset health bars. Yet her low mobility is a signpost for junglers in LPL who love to gank the bottom lane.

THE LONG HAUL

Soraka saw repeated play in a single series by Edward Gaming’s Feng “Fzzf” Zhuojun, Gamtee’s Dong “SinkDream” Shichun, and King’s Le “LeyM” Yi from mid to late December. Fzzf and SinkDream each lost and won one game on Soraka. LeyM didn’t win either of his games with the pick, but a combination of Soraka, Mikael’s, and a late game hyper carry for Wang “Wuxin” Cheng kept the team afloat. In the case of both Fzzf and SinkDream, results were largely dictated by how long their Soraka could last in lane undisturbed. Both supports lost when multiple assailants from the mid lane and jungle came to their lanes for kills on them and their AD carries. Soraka’s limited early defenses and mobility turn her and her lane partner targets for zealous jungles and mid laners.
