Riot Please Recognize This

Riot I am a 16 year old male. I have been playing league for over a year now, and I was wondering if riot could help me with something. I go to a pretty big school called Clear Lake High School. There is over 3 thousand kids or more enrolled there. Many of the kids are league players of them self. I had got a few kids, along with my self to come up with an idea. We had all sat down and talked about, what if there was a high school professional league. I had went to the board of the school and talked to them about it, I had told them doing so with this gives a chance for kids to meet new friends, get kids from wanting to drop out or ending up on the streets, and maybe get a scholar ship to play league at a collage. The board of the schools said they would have to look into but couldn't do much unless they got a grant to start the program and had proof to show that riot games would create a, high school level professional league. The reason I wanted to make a level for high schools is because there is probe thousands of other league players in high school that wishes there school had a team. So if you could please inform me on what you guys think and I would gladly make the first high school level league team.

Thank you, James Bailey Mckeegan

It would be interesting for sure to see eSports reach the level of the NFL and so forth... To have that ever elusive scout(teemo) looking for talent for the world stage... Not only this but you would probably give players(students) that might not have that chance for college a chance at something greater.

But this is not just a question for Riot. Granted they will have a huge part of it... But, the change starts with you, James! We need more people willing to step forward and pioneer these programs and to get the state, and eventually the national board of education involved. The Time and effort put into something as this task is massive.

So one question is a inter-scholastic program(self sponsored, or sponsored)? With self sponsored programs you will be doing a lot of local and area fund raisers for the team/school. With a sponsored team you are looking at organizations getting involved and doing their own investigations about bribery and so forth but nothing to be to scared of.

For fairness, teams would probably forgo the traditional rankings of (bronze-diamond) allowing all schools, regardless of the rankings of the individuals, to compete and have a chance at a national championship.... And if not how to promote the games fairness without promoting toxicity, singling out other players for disabilities or other things that might or might not effect the quality and competition of the eSport spirit?

What do you propose for the selection of players from the High School to College Arena? And from the College Arena to the Pro Arena? I would think a system along the lines of the NFL Draft.

How are you going to write or propose this to the national board of education?

These are just some starting ideas to get the ball rolling but the upmost effort on your end means nothing unless Riot is willing to stand next to you. But Good luck.

I think you should spend less time playing League of Legends and more time paying attention to your English classes.

Just what we need, kids concentrating on league instead of learning simple things like using the enter key when making a forum post, grammar, and spelling, (or even using spell check). Paying attention in school or just taking the initiative to learn things for yourself, you would know that; scholarship is not an educated boat, and college is not a collection of pictures mashed together.

Not that kids these days even bother with learning in school anymore, but promoting distractions is another thing entirely.

If they are offering college scholarships for League now, I don't see why not. Other sports have both high school and college level teams.

lol.hsstarleague.com It already exists, I am the head of the League of legends Club at my school and encourage students to make teams and compete in star league, which many of them do. This year we have 3 teams competing. If you're looking for something more professional than this you're going to have to make it into LCS or Challenger Series. Star league for LoL is organized and well run, and it is strictly for high school students. The winning team of the last tourney got $100,000 in college scholarship money, I really don't think they need anything more "professional" than this. There just aren't enough professional high school players, most students don't have the time. You pointed out that there are thousands of other high school players that wish their school had a team, 1400 teams from different schools across North America competed in Star league during spring. That's a lot. If any high schooler wants to start a team and play competitively this is where they go.

Not to be a Grammar Nazi, but please run these by your English teacher first.

I highly agree with this. It gives more options to see give kids competition. Esports is the new era of traditional competition. I highly agree that high schools and colleges/universities to have organized sports.

I think that's cool and I hope Riot will sponsor this. Likely though your first step is to communicate with league players at several schools in your area and find someone willing to pioneer a team there. If you have the people ready to pioneer multiple teams set up that would help Riot tremendously.

And Way to Go! That sounds like a lot of work but it'd be so worth it if this will work out.

I'm not entirely sure what the concept behind this post is. Are you asking for high school league leagues, or for a professional circuit for high school students only?

If the appeal is for a UIL level league (can't remember what the acronym is for but it's the level high school football/baseball/swimming/literally every high school competition is played at) I'm not sure riot would have anything to do with that. It seems that would be school district issue in terms of organizing and hosting the events because that's how everything from football to choir competitions are handled in high school usually.

If the appeal is for a professional circuit that is restricted to only high school students, then it seems that the issue would be entirely on whomever was sponsoring the circuit (although I suppose riot could ban them from hosting it if they believed the system somehow would reflect poorly on the company to let other organizations host something like that). In that case the primary concern would be finding a financial justification for it. Personally, I barely keep up w/ all the major pro leagues, and will watch one, maybe two teams in the challenger series if I'm rooting for particular players to get a shot. I question if there would be a large enough market to add a 4th or 5th tier of "pro" play (assuming KR/CH>EU/NA are tier one level pro, smaller regions are tier two, challenger series are tier 3, college series are tier 4), and I think justifying that would be the first concern in this case. If you can find someone to put up the money, then you come up w/ the issue of why would it matter to limit it to schools? AAU basketball tournaments are an example of top tier high school level competition which serves as a hub/funnel for scouts offering scholarships and they are restricted to area I think (not sure) but certainly not to high school. If you came up w/ funding for a league that is outside of high school competitions, then the issue would be "why should it be restricted to high schools and not just region/ unrestricted if it's played on line instead of in person?"

I live in Valley Park, MO and last year I tried to join the HSL with my small school (400 high schoolers tops) worth of teams (we had 2) but I was too late. By the time I even knew it existed it'd started up. We're going at it again this year, but it'd be really cool if Rito worked with HSL to some degree. Maybe if they provided a little publicity in later stages of the competition one year, added some LCS style casters and a venue for the final stages and whatnot, it'd get bigger. Then, when your favorite member from a HSL team graduates, there could be a bio page for players who reach a certain stage that tells if they plan to continue outside of HS. It'd be a lot of work, but if an HSL final was hosted at a venue near enough, i'd pay to go watch it. See the best high school players go at it LCS style.
