Best in NA at what they do.
With 1 week left in the 2017 regular season, i think its time to look back at both the Spring and Summer splits and notice the best of the best at every role in NA. Coaches included, this be exciting to do. Lets get to it. I'll be doing the winner and a runner up.
Top Lane:
Winner: DIG Ssumday Bit of a cop out if you asked me this question at the beginning of either split. Ssumday has been consistent, dominant and drawing so much pressure and attention in the top lane. He's beaten guys like Hauntzer, Darshan, Flame, Impact, Ray, and pretty much every top laner in NA. While it wasnt close to last year with Impact's summer playoff murder fest, or Huni's utter dismantling of both splits, Ssumday managed to look good in damn near every game he's played in both splits save for 1. DIG vs IMT in spring, that 50min snoozefest. Thats it, just one game where he looked not good. He's shown up for DIG so huge this split, playing tanks and providing a impregnable front line, playing carries and dominating everyone that matched up against him, he's done everything for DIG and done it well. He even managed to carry a game with Lucian top (Que the Huni tears). In spring he made us feel like he was a god playing with peasants on DIG, this split, i feel like the overall morale change had a huge helping hand from Ssumday who is a good leader and a big voice for DIG if you listened to the coms in post game highlights. His English improved so damn vastly too considering he was a superstar in Korea and couldve taken his sweet time to learn. He's a guy who seems like he can do no wrong and he's the best in NA when it comes to top laners.
Runner Up:
TSM Hauntzer With how much flak i give a lot of top players in my weekly rankings, youd think i have it out for a few guys that will be on this list. Hauntzer was one that made a few people say i have no idea what im saying etc. because i was hard on him. I was hard on him because i know he can be where Ssumday is but some minor mistakes held him back. Seeing him destroy top laners in Spring but fall internationally, then come in for the Summer and become a completely new style of player, making controlled but aggressive engages on his carry picks, still being probably the best tank player in NA, a new hauntzer came around in Summer and still held him in high regards, beating Darshan, Flame, Impact and so many more. He proved that with time, even with some time in worlds, he will be even scarier than he is now and was before. hauntzer is a great player who just keeps getting better and thats why he is a runner up for the best top laner in NA.
Jungle:
Winner: NV LirA Last split he was the best jungler, this split he is the best jungler. Out of every jungler, he's got the most kills, 4th most assists, 71% kill participation, and most importantly has helped a nowhere team with nothing good besides LirA himself fight its way back to being a team that can give just about any top team a run for its money and make playoffs. He's an amazing leader, proved he's great on tanks, better on carries, and has great pathing and vision control. Nobody has been a bigger asset to an improving team than LirA. NV has become his team and he has become one of those great players that forces his competition to improve or drown. Much like Reingover and Huni did last year. LirA is a jungler to be feared no matter what placing NV falls to and that makes him the best jungler in NA for the 2017 season.
Runner Up:
DIG Shrimp With no spring split to be played, he goes to runner up, i feel like if he did have spring, he'd done more than LirA, i really do. Its funny because LirA and Shrimp were the only people who could stop eachother. In their only meet-up, both of them played into a stale-mate and left the matchup to the rest of the team. He's dominated every jungler he's been against BUT LirA. Svenskeren, Xmithie, Contract, Reignover, Dardoch etc. He's dominated the summer split since landing in DIG and is an important piece to DIG's success this split.
Mid Lane:
Winner: C9 Jensen Surprised? All the shit and salt i gave Jensen and he still to me, is the best mid laner in NA. He hasnt had a bad game that i can remember, his days of not looking good are that rare. in losses, in wins, Jensen just does not loose mid lane, deathless in some losses even. He's been playing his heart out for C9 and has accrued major leads in lane that even Bjergsen had hard times to match or make even in some games of both C9 vs TSM series. People say he's haunted by proving he's better than Bjerg, in my head, he already is, and thats why i have him as the best mid laner in NA.
Runner Up:
TSM Bjergsen No surprise, he's still the backbone of any success TSM seems to have, in losses, in wins, its always Bjergsen's leadership and play that makes them stand far and beyond other teams. He has taken a back seat to his breakout kill sprees but is playing the map, getting leads and using his own wins in mid lane to boost the rest of TSM to heights expected of both those who love TSM and those who straight up despise them. You can never count out TSM when they have Bjergsen and has only had about 3 bad games this year, the entire year. That is a amazingly strong thing to say but stronger when it happens. Bjerg made it happen and that's why he is the runner up for best mid in NA.
ADC: (This will cause some arguments)
Winner: DIG Altec Doublelift had no spring, Wildturtle, Arrow and Sneaky fell off hard from their spring performance and with this being about the ENTIRE YEAR one player who played in both splits and did damn well get two teams to the playoffs, is Altec. People as well as myself had doubts when FlyQuest made it to playoffs in Spring, he didnt look like he had the tools to be great, and him coming to DIG in the summer showed he didnt have the teammates allowing him to step up as hard as he can. Altec has beaten out so many great ADCs in lane in Spring and Summer and its hard to look at him and point out faults. When Adrian joined Altec it made him more dangerous and gave him a support who can allow him to pop of like he's been. Altec is the ADC thats part of a dream Bot Lane that DIG always wanted who can go toe to toe with any laners and even beat them, and thats why Altec is the best ADC of the 2017 year.
Runner Up
TSM DoubleLift Without a spring, he had no chance to make a case on the year, during summer however, he showed DoubleLift is still the Great One when you talk about ADCs. Much like Bjergsen this guy oozes skill and leadership thats hard to match. He has that kind of "Faker" style since coming back where he can lose lane but smash the ever loving crap out of teams by being so damn good of a ADC and backline threat in general. He knows when he can and cant win a matchup and doesnt try beyond his limit because he's very calculated in what he tries to do. Thats why DoubleLift is the Runner Up for the best ADC in NA
Support:
Winner: C9 Smoothie Smoothie was considered the best support last split, he showed why he was chosen over a phenomenal support like BunnyFuFuu and still stepped up and showed why he is the best support of the year by being the first in NA to bring in new but clutch picks in the support role like MF, and Taric, saved Sneaky and the rest of his team i dont know how many times and even out Bio-Daddied, Bio-Daddy in some games. He's one of the few supports in North America who can actually teamfight well on Bard and has such an incredible understanding of the limits and potential of every pick he takes in to games. Is a support going to be able to grab his team by the neck and drag them to wins? No not unless your name is Mata and you play for RNG, but in a rocky start to the summer, Smoothie was like Jensen, never really falling off in performance and making sure he tried his damndest to help his team strangle wins anywhere they could get them. Thats why i say he is the best Support in NA this year.
Runner Up:
IMT Olleh: yeah it isnt Biofrost i know. Biofrost hasnt been the same since spring and that sexy Rift RIvals showing didnt follow him back to NA when it was over. Olleh on the other hand turned into a god. not THE god but A god. When you talk about IMT's success this split its easy to mention Xmithie having a breakout summer performance and being able to shot call without Aphromoo shutting his ideas down. But Olleh has been with this team the entirety of the year, took the time to learn Cody Sun, to learn Flame's play style and be able to draw and call out for great TP's and the ability to make the map his when he pilots the Thresh or Bard. People called him Trolleh because when he is on Thresh or Bard, even last split, he was everywhere, like a Teemo coming out from invis, to land a Cosmic Binding or a Death Sentence to help IMT win fights. He is a leader, he is a big voice and a big reason why IMT is is sitting at number 1 right now and has set up fantastic jungle/support synergy with Xmithie to prove he is most of what makes IMT so great, and thats why i have him at runner up.
Coach:
Winner: Cop Coach Cop has managed to really do what people never expected from him. Win. He knows what is best for his team, worth with DIG to makes excellent draft choices and is a huge proprietor of the 10 man roster because his philosophy is competition makes great players. People meme'd about "Cops drafts" but its true, ive not really seen coaches save for two do even half of what he's willing to do for his team. He reminds me of someone who diligently looks up to Kkoma and puts those lessons to practice and its been working. He has worked to set up an environment that player WANT to thrive in, you need only to look at the players themselves to see it. Adrian left IMT because he hated the "Me first" personallity of Huni, and hated the relationship he had with Arrow only to come to DIG and say he actually thought he was not going to like it but ended up loving it, LoD said he felt like he could be better than he ever was and to his credit he did improve, Ssumday actually rushing to learn english as well as he did because he felt like the team could do so much and he believed in his teamates, Altec given a second life after people saying he wasnt as good as people though when he first came into the LCS, trusting and knowing Shrimp would be better for the team over Chaser when Shrimp was slumming it in Japan after a bad showing last year. At every turn, Cop has done nothing but live and die for DIG and that's why he is the best coach of the year for 2017.
Runner Up
Parth Parth came under fire heavily after slamming it in Spring, and blowing it in MSI. People wanted his head and everyone thought Regi was getting his greasy little twitter fingers ready to slam Parth and fire him. He didnt, he actually supported him. In Summer, Parth talked about their MSI performance and getting DoubleLift back, along with his changes to their style. Hauntzer has become more of a role-playing Top laner, Svenskeren stopped with the dumb aggression and Biofrost has stopped with the god mode tryharding and toned it down to become a team player and more of a voice as well for TSM. Parth has the ability to keep TSM strong when they win and the ability to help his team bounce back when they fail. He doesnt posses the initial prowess for teamwork that Cop does but damned if he doesnt try and damned if he's keeping TSM from being the gross failure TSM was when Loco was at the helm. That is why Parth is runner up for best NA Coach for 2017.
Thats my list, those are my picks and i hope you guys get talking and discuss on your opinions, i like this board interacting and showing off their knowledge and being more than usernames.
