Following up on our draft, we now bring you the results of the final week in the Lolesports Fantasy League. One sole contender has risen above the rest to claim victory for the season. The Results
Match 1
Mattias Lehman - Gustaf's Gentlemen (8-3)
When we started at the beginning of the season, I had my doubts. I was worried about all sorts of upsets from Unicorns, Monkeys, or worse, Teemos. But we held them all at bay, and I'm pleased to accept this award. Were we perfect? No. If only I'd started RobertxLee, I'd have won my last week. But we all make mistakes, and I've learned from mine: never start TSM. Other than that, I'm glad my strategy of sleeper picks and Cloud9 support/team picks paid off in spades.
And to all those out there who accuse me of voodoo, I say to you: if sacrificing one or two rabbits makes me a sorcerer, then so be it. But I like to think a man can sacrifice a few woodland critters to unknown elder gods in exchange for Fantasy LCS victory without being labeled a cultist. Because if we don't have our freedom, what do we have? I mean, other than this giant first place trophy filled with RP and champion skins.
Josh Augustine - Yordle Ascension (6-5)
The tiny, fluffy people of Yordle Ascension have traveled through great adversity to accept this bronze medal today. They scored the most points in the league, and also faced the largest points-against too.
My Mid lane curse held strong to the end, with Link suddenly disappearing with the rest of CLG, and there was not a single starting Mid laner available for pickup. But my trust in Alliance and Fnatic paid off. I drafted heavily in both teams in all of my leagues because of how well they finished off the Spring Split, and they showed up to carry me in the end. Cheers, boys.
I'm happy with my finish this year. I got third, but I won the mental victory of scoring more points than anyone else. Hopefully that's enough to buy me some trash-talk.
Match 2
Trent Murray - This is My Smurf (3-8)
There's a rule in poker that you never judge your decision based on a bad beat. No one thought Cloud9 would slump as hard as they did. CLG was a great team through most of the season, but Seraph never got to be a part of the points. I ended the season in dead last due in part to a bad beat with my first and second draft picks, but I cost myself several potential wins by refusing to dump Seraph. For everyone in my situation, my advice would be to go back and look at the information you had at the time of your draft. See what you reasonably could have done differently (I should have taken Cop a round earlier than I wanted to so I wouldn't get stuck with Imaqtpie). We'll get 'em next time!
Thomas Watts - Code Monkeys (7-4)
My Monkey Brethren, I am sorry to report that we fell as we reached the finish line, 504.96-507.32. It came down to the final battle of the final game of the week between Cloud9 and Counter Logic Gaming. The Monkeys still came in second in the league with a 7-4 record. In honor of this second place finish, your Head Monkey has graciously allowed for Fritos and Mountain Dew to be served one final time. To all the loyal Monkeys out there, the Code Monkeys will return next season with copious amounts of coffee cake while gunning for first.
Match 3
Andrew Whitmore - Rainbow Unicorns (6-5)
Welp, who would've thought that the CLG Frankenstein monster of a team would come together and actually win me this week? Even after admitting defeat last week prematurely, it came down to the wire for my fantasy team just barely beating out Neoillusions. Overall, my team did okay finishing in 5th place with a 6-5 record. If it weren't for CLG taking a nose dive in the final few weeks I would have secured second place easily but there's nothing I could do about that. Hopefully Montecristo beats them with sticks until they snap out of it going into playoffs. Also, I have a sneaking suspicion that Gustaf performed some kind of sacrificial ritual in order to secure his 1st place finish - which is totally cheating. Ritualistic wins aside, my team could have been so much more if only I focused on the two huge roles right off the bat during drafts - AD Carry and Mid laners. It's a hard lesson to learn but one that will win me many fantasy leagues in the future.
Jack Ho - Dragonslayer Teemo (5-6)
What a disappointing finish but lessons well learned. There were too many weeks where I subbed out SK when I should have kept them in (like this week) and vice versa. In the end, I think it goes back to how I drafted my team. By and large, my Europeans players performed up to expectations but there were too many weeks Dyrus and Meteos underperformed. I dropped Amazing back in Week 3 and I probably should have dropped Dyrus soon after. The two team strategy was interesting but it definitely didn't pay off.
Congrats to Gustaf. This yordle will be back slaying dragons next split. Until then...
Match 4
Ferguson Mitchell - FergSquad (6-5)
Well team, we squeaked by with another win, and the double AD strategy proves incredibly resilient with an unfortunately-late breakout performance from Cop. If only this was Week 1 and we could start all over again. In the end, we couldn't overcome the 1-4 opening to our season, despite going 5-1 the rest of the way. It was an admirable comeback attempt, rising from last place to finish tied for third. All I can do at this point is to hope I can continue my streak into the next season (and maybe cross my fingers that they implement a playoff system). Until then, let's all have a safe, healthy, and fantasy-free offseason.
Kelsey Moser - Diana Fire (3-8)
Let's just say I got demolished. There were quite a few weeks where I -almost- won, but just as in LCS, that doesn't mean much of anything. It seems Diana Fire is up for relegation. If there's any justice, my team will get one last match against This is My Smurf so that I might at least pick my opponent from the rising Challenger Freelancers.
