Isn't it ironic that faker has the worst stats on SKT for MSI?

Out of all 5 including Huni, Faker has the worst KDA, most deaths, and second lowest kill participation(lowest being Huni). People talk about him being the best player in the world and heart of SKT, but peanut has definitely been carrying SKT almost every game this season.

Faker was 0-0-0 for the longest time in a game and ended 1-0-1. But he pretty much kept his opponent's LeBlanc from doing anything. He was really the MVP of that game even though the stats didn't show it.

Also, you have to realize he gets targeted for that reason as well. I mean, in that first game he was 0-4 in like 12 minutes. Ivern was just constantly waiting for him. And then even once they got to team fights they still would focus him.

Was it because he was the hardest carry there at the time and the best to eliminate? Or was it because he's the best player?

I just feel like being "the best" throws a target on you and people will do whatever they can to kill you.

Half of what Faker does gets blown out of proportion, and he isn't nearly the god people make him out to be. Even just a simple juke or a flash is now considered to be a godly escape, when it concerns Faker. People, mostly analysts and casters, are believing in the hype and legend they themselves created. Is he the best player in the world? Probably. People just forget that SKT also has 4 other world-class players on their team, that Faker can rely on. Something that isn't the case for most other teams, that have a weak link somewhere.

That said, opposing teams do often target him with either counter picks or jungle attention, making the laning phase more difficult for him. Therefore he can't snowball hard either. He still makes a ton of great plays in team fights though. And it also seems that he didn't have a great tournament in general. He can't always perform at his best.

This kind of logic is part of the reason why other regions can't compare to the South Korean teams. They are much more professional and understanding about what is actually happening during matches. Stop staring at the stat scoreboard and start paying attention to what's going on in the game. The most notable and important events in a match usually can't be represented with a bunch of arbitrary numbers. Think zoning, ergonomics, logistics, and economics. Where were resources focused and what was gained by doing so? What effect did a given movement, purchase, or kill/death actually have? What's the overall strategy a team is using and what tactics and techniques are they using to accomplish that strategy? How efficiently are the players on one team using their time and movement as opposed to the other team? You can sit there and stare at the score tab all you want and think, "Damn, look at those numbers!" all you want, but at the end of the day the team that makes the other guys' nexus explode wins. You could be 20 kills down and still win a game. People need to try and get away from thinking in terms of instant self-gratification and focus more on the things that matter.

MSI was jungle-favored with midlaners essentially suffering from the old adc meta with 2-3 picks constantly being favored (syndra/ori being the jhin/ashe of the old meta) and few things aside from that having priority (leblanc being one of them even though I wouldn't say many of them carried games). The fact faker had the worst kda doesn't actually surprise me as people are constantly under the assumption that he's a dominant player by being aggressive/racking up kills, when in reality he's so good because of how much he denies the opponent (keeping things to the lowest denominator so to speak).

Faker generally draws a lot of the enemy team's attention to keep him down, and even then he tends to do well when it gets to actual teamfights. Teams also generally save their counterpick against him if possible, so he really takes a lot from his opponents.

Nope. Bot lane (both Bang and Wolf) has been even more consistent in carrying SKT than Peanut that had some downs here and there.

And by the way, Faker IS the Heart of SKT, and MSI has shown this even more. He can do anything, he can carry or take a role in the backseat and enhance the other guys that are doing well, and swap between these mindset istantly in a flawless transition. And this is the rarest skill in the game when paired with his mechanical skills. Some other guy would have tilted off the earth after having being trashed by his opponent twice in a row, instead he just shrug it off and played the test of the series very well

why do people think SKT is ''just'' faker? its the whole team as a cohesive unit with stellar coaching and backroom staff.

unosnow5/28/2017, 3:17:09 PM1 votes

No not at all. Faker presents a threat in the minds of every league player who opposed him. They always had strong Lanes but faker was special. Now they have a faker in every position and teams just tried tongue the shit out of faker to win which ultimately brought their defeat. Peanut is the world's best Lee sin if you let him get Lee sin your gonna loose (I think he only lost 1 game on Lee,?)

It's like they're a team or something, and not one player who has four tagging along. Go figure.

I think Faker might retire or take a break after this season, you can always see from veteran players that they always don't try as hard any more because of them playing the game non stop and getting bored with the game. Don't think they play 5 games a day trust me then play over 10 games a day and this is non stop, normal players like you and me take a break once in a while when we get bored but for them they HAVE to non stop play the game.

Dyrus/Regi/ToyZ/imp/Piglet/Marin all the previous pros probably get tired of playing the game over and over again and their skills show that they are falling, I'm just amazed Faker still wants to play competitive which he wins a lot of money but I would had usually quit after 1 championship win.

Aside from people 'targetting' him, he has made a couple of mistakes himself this tournament. Some fail flashes and mispositions for example, but he's still really really good overall. His teamfighting is just so on point as well as his 1v1 most of the time. The gap between Faker and the other midlaners has certainly diminished, and I even wonder if he should still be considered the best. Now, we shouldn't draw too many conclusions based on one tournament. Perhaps it's a patch that didn't really favour him.

Sometimes he loses his lane, against Perkz for example, but that doesn't stop him from being really good lategame. I think he's still the best lategame midlaner that can adapt to most situations.

No. Its not Ironic.

Lucian Waifu5/22/2017, 9:54:49 PM1 votes

Not really, on top of being known for carrying SKT, the current meta is all about high amount of ganks early, both of which culminates to putting the most pressure on faker. He has the worst stats because he was most often focused which allowed the other players to shine along with making it harder for faker to "look" amazing

Don't ya think? A little too ironic?
