Who goes to worlds?

I saw EUW are playing games now at Gamescom, and I started wondering if this is the qualifier for Worlds 2014, or if it's just some way to pick out Allstar teams... So I looked at Riot's e-sports page, but I couldn't find any information there. Then I looked at Leaguepedia (or gamespedia or whatever it's called now), and I couldn't find any information there either. There's a thread on Reddit, but it doesn't say what the tournament leads to, it just tells you results of matches.

How can I know how you get to worlds? Is this really information I should have to try really hard to find, only to fail? Where is the transparency in the e-sport system?

I used to follow LCS quite a lot, but recently I got bored with it because every game is the same. So I haven't watched since sometime last winter. What I mean to say is that I'm not just some noob who wants to get a first glance, I've actually been taking an active part of the LoL e-sports scene for a long time, but I still have major troubles trying to find information. Are Riot intentionally trying to keep the e-sports section exclusive in some way, and discourage beginners from entering? Or what is going on here?

It's the same as last year. And yes, this is the tournament for Worlds qualification. Top 3 placers go to Worlds. NA's tournament starts next week.

I'm not sure why you would be having problems with finding info on everything. The lolesports website pretty much has everything spelled out on its homepage right now regarding the different regions and world qualifications.

Basically EU is happening now and NA next week with both of them sharing the same format of the top 3 teams advancing to worlds. At this moment Fnatic is already in having beat Roccat 3-2 earlier today with SK and Alliance playing now to see who the second team will be. The two losers will play for the 3rd and final spot to worlds.

The other three regions are about to finish their seasons which will result in some different forms of qualifications. (All three are different from NA and EU)

There are also two wildcard spots that cover regions that are not really within the 5 major regions. One has already been decided (Dark passage won the International wildcard) and the other will be played later involving Brazilian/Latin American teams.

There is a ton of info out there on this stuff.
