The boring state of the competitive meta

I'd like to say that I don't think it's a problem with this specific patch, but rather with the whole year. With a few exceptions, we see the same 20 or so champs in EVERY game in EVERY part of the world. We get the occasional semi-unusual pick, but Reksai will be picked or banned in every game. Trundle, Gnar, Shen, Reksai, Gragas, every game. 20-25 champs that are ever used in a game that is going to have 10 of them at any time makes for a showcase as to why those champs are stupid OP, but not exactly riveting competition. It was a similar problem all season. I shouldn't be this interested to see a Velkoz in game. I mean, I've only seen him 3 times in the last 2 days of competition! WOW!

I propose a new rule for LCS. Best of 3's at least always, champs can't be used more than once by either team. Or maybe can't be used twice in a row. Or something. ANYTHING to force some variety. Top and Jungle are particularly bad.

People need to realize that with any type of competitive game there will always be the best picks. You can't force people to play things that don't work well for them.

120 or so champs in the game now. I think we could get 50 of them to be viable.

And of course we can force them to, that's what the rules are FOR, to establish the parameters of the game. The same old routine of "spend a few weeks figuring out who's OP, practice them to death, play them exclusively" is getting old fast and could be the beginning of the end. People don't get excited to see the same game played out over and over. "Oh look, it's Gnar vs Shen or Ekko, how interesting" said no one since week 1.

By not allowing consecutive champ pics, it would force players to have a larger champ pool and increase the importance of macro play and team work while lowering the need to put it ridiculous hours practicing one champion (and thus help fight player burnout).

It would also force out the repetitive use of specific team comps. The finals is almost guaranteed to be 4-5 games of 3 tank/2 threat 1-4 split push, for both teams. Just like the games earlier today and all the games yesterday. Same basic set up, same 20 champs, 20 games.

It can be better.

Or bot lane. Bot lane's been pretty stale for years.
