Red Side was an alarming handicap this worlds

Just look at this chart

THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED!

The chart clearly shows which side had the advantage. Notice how red bans all look the same while blue are more diverse. Blue won 42/69 while red Won only 22/69. That is almost twice as many games that blue won over red. So in a best of 3 blue side averages to wins all 3 and go 3-0, mind you that this is just math, not actually what happened.

EXPLANATION (skip to bottom for summary): When we look at bans, We see red basically always banning Gangplank and Mordekaiser since blue side will not ban them, since they have first pick, and they know that they're too broken/annoying/difficult to pay against (given their near 100% ban rates with like 4 games played each) so Red side will be "forced" to ban them, leaving them only 1 ban to use against the blue team's champion pool. this makes it 3-1 for usable bans favoriting the Blue side. Red side also took Jinx for an ADC and either Alistar or Thresh with the occasional Braum for Support. Making them predictable picks.

TOP lane champions were always priority for both sides. This meant that red never got the ideal top laner if Blue took it first. Junglers were Lee sin, Rek'sai, Gragas (until locked for a bug), and Elise. Not very hard to play against or to build a team around. so no threat really there. Mid lane was very diverse. Probably a result from the mid Tp meta. low mobility champs could not join fights cross map. making Veigar and Anivia a lot more valuable. But since TOP, ADC, SUP, and most of the JUNGLE champs were full or partial tanks (save ADC) and mainly dealt AD for damage, Mid was not always very practical since only one or two targets could be bursted down. Which is why we see Supporting Mid laners.

  • Supporting Mid Laner: a champion who is picked more for their cc, shields, zoning capabilities, and/ or heals rather than for being an AP source of damage (Lulu, Azir, and Veigar are prime examples).

Bottom for summary:

  • Top was priority picked by blue
  • red had always 2 guaranteed bans
  • Mid was less of a threat than usual
  • ADC and SUPPORTS were the same each game
  • junglers were not very diverse
  • mid TP meta
  • Supporting Mid Laner

All these points made blue side likely to win more often. Since bans were predetermined for red, blue had the ability to ban for strategy and First pic the most OP champ they wanted.

This was honestly the only problem in FNC vs Koo match up. Most games, blue side bans either morde or gp and the red side with ban the other

It seemed FNC choked pretty hard. They were banning themselves away.

In general, having 4 champions with >90% pick/ban rates is absurd.

It is interesting how we saw so much diversity throughout the tournament, yet the diversity really shot down as the tournament progressed. It makes the games seem more stale in my opinion. That's why I always love to see some professional blind pick!

yea, picks&bans need an overhaul since quite forever...
