Casters are avoiding saying the words ‘Hong Kong’.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHEiLIGtLFU&t=235 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEqn3FlKJdM&t=535 And during the group stage draw

All these times the casters deliberately avoided saying the words Hong Kong. In the first two clips the caster literally said ’Hong Kong eh... HKA’ in no normal circumstance would someone correct themselves like that unless they were specifically warned not to. In the group draw HKA was deliberately abbreviated when every other team had their full names on the paper inside the ball.

People hate on Blizzard and NBA but we need to be aware that it is happening within our very own game as well.

League is partly owned by a chinese company. It is very obvious what their stance is on this. People just don't want to lose their jobs, but make no mistake Riot because of it's owners are anti hong kong. And this thread will be closed very soon probably due to pressure to keep these things on the down low on the excuse that we should not discuss politics even though this is a very important part of our world happening right now.

Fuck you, Tencent

It's honestly weird as it's not like Hong Kong's existence is actively being denied.

Tencent is the OWNER of riot games. When people say "Hong Kong" we all know the first thing that comes to our minds. Recently stumbled accrossed this article too: https://www.japantimes.co.jp/opinion/2019/03/28/commentary/world-commentary/worried-huawei-take-closer-look-tencent/. So I am honestly, yes disapointed. But not surprised at all for this censorship.

Hey all,

While discussing Riot's interactions with China's policy in relation to Hong Kong is one of the few exceptions we have to the rules regarding social/political commentary, we do need to make sure that the conversation remains focused on Riot's actions and avoid any discussions related to China and Hong Kong themselves.

Thanks

Yeah that's very odd. I'm glad you noticed and brought this to our attention

Riot is owned by Tencent. Tencent is in China. Tencent doesn't want a Tencent square. My bad I meant Tencent respects all opinions they would never try to suppress a political opinion

General Esdeath 10/9/2019, 12:34:19 AM17 votes

tbh I think they may just be concerned that their job is on the line next. I do think Tencent would do it, but I don't think anyone has been warned yet.

Well, Tencent is a Chinese company. I'm sure they are quite aware of what the Chinese government will do if the Chinese government thinks League is promoting rebellion or seen as a form of propaganda. And to such a large company that has a hand in the global economy, money is more important than human rights. Gotta keep that honey pot overflowing so Winnie the Pooh can stay fed.

Tencent is largely investing in censorship about Hong Kong. They also invested 140 millions into Reddit and killed a few largely populated subreddits by forcing the whole subreddit to be exlusively in Chinese letters and other subreddits like r/Pics remove posts and ban your account for posting about past censorship-activities, such as the infamous tiananmen square.

Tencent is Big on supporting the current Chinese dictatorship, so I wouldn't be too surprised if the whole boards ends up eating the shit for them noticing that it's brought up here.

I really hope whoever wins just shouts "free Hong Kong" and unleashes a collosal shitstorm.

ITZ ICY10/9/2019, 9:46:53 PM8 votes

Now imagine a situation where Hong Kong Attitude wins, and casters won't be able to even say their full name when they are champions. Glorious.

I'm pretty sure it would be the first case where a winning team didn't get a skin line too.

Riot been kissing china ass more now than before it seems.

letsgetmagical10/9/2019, 11:58:54 PM6 votes

Just sad. That these NA/EU casters are puppets and they don't realize how deep china's hand are in them.

These mods talkin down to people, censoring everything. the rules only work on us

Gall10/9/2019, 4:05:15 PM3 votes

Even the slightest slip-up might cause all Chinese teams to be forced out of the LCS, or Tencent might have to take more extreme measures OR lay off a ton of people/ who knows what.

The reality of politics will seep into every aspect of life sadly. Wish we didn't have this censorship.

I read up on this a bit before the play ins started and I had thought to myself the whole 1907 Fenerbache case but on a more critical mass. The casters, production, and even the players of HKA themselves have to tread carefully like it's some kind of Freudian slip. And on that it's within mixed reasoning from the Chinese impact to just the team's name itself. Would it have mattered if they were able to identify as their old HKE tag? Probably still...

As long as they're in the tournament it will be a rather looming. Kudos to keeping evasive of it but damn if it feels like a gun is being put to heads over it.
