Is TSM mind-gaming the bracket?

I'm full well aware that I'll likely be accused of making excuses for NA, fanboying, etc etc. Hear me out.

So in a 6 team round robin, four teams are going to go to the elimination bracket. Turkey is going to be in one of those 5th/6th spots. That leaves one other team getting eliminated.

Let's say then, TSM decide they want to focus on 1 team. Just one, to beat handily in the group stages, who would they pick? Chances are it would be AHQ.

This would essentially give them a 2-4 (or 3/3) record in the group stages, putting them in 4th place. They'd likely be up against SKT in the semifinals of the elimination portion of it, which is right where they want to be. TSM has said repeatedly that if they don't win on a world stage, then none of it actually matters. Also - in a lot of international tournaments, the deciding games tend to be played in the semi-finals anyway, and the finals tend to be a 3-0 or 3-1 rout.

So if they end up placing right where they want, which is 4th, and face of against SKT T1, then they have the benefit of being able to sit back and watch Fnatic and EDG brawl it out with each other. Fnatic and EDG have extremely similar brawl styles, so it might be difficult for the winner of that series to adjust to TSM's more controlled style. Theoretically, that would give TSM the edge moving into the grand finals.

I'm well aware this sounds very conspiracy theory-esque, and maybe my brain is trying to rationalize the god awful TSM game. But is it possible that TSM is trying to mindgame the bracket into a setup they feel favors them moving into the elimination stage?

This would be so unbelievably risky, almost to the point of suicidal when it comes to a tournament that is this important... but....what if?

Yes they lost on purpose. Part of Locodoco's brilliant strategy.

But br>eu as said by the keyboard coaches. Why give away such a free win?

Chances of SKT beating TSM in the semi finals is more than TSM beating EDG or Fnatic in finals. So if such a theory does exist, then TSM is just stupid.

I'm just convinced that Locodoco isn't as good of a coach as everyone seems to think.

TSM rocks NA with lane swaps and strategy.

TSM comes into MSI and refuses to lane swap, plays shit like Ziggs I don't even remember seeing Bjergson play all year, and just let's Dyrus get shit on instead of ganking for him or at least sending him some help, all things they didn't do in the regular season or playoffs for that matter.

I believe it was PHreak or Jatt, if not both, who said at one point at the start of one of the games "TSM is one of, if not the best lane swapping teams in NA" and they didn't lane swap in game one or three, and Dyrus got wrecked, because even going back 2-3 years, this is what always happens at international events.

TSM plays standard lanes, team realizes Dyrus is the weakest laner on the team, Dyrus gets camped. Top laner gets way ahead and carries.

This is nothing new, and you'd think at least TSM would realize this, but they just threw their normal way of playing out the window and started playing random crap, like Dyrus on Hec, which he rarely plays, Bjerg on Ziggs, which I can't even remember him playing a single time all year so far, and Santorin on only Rek'Sai when they could have grabbed Sej in 2 of the 3 games (the 2 they lost). It is like Loco is actively giving them terrible strategies.

If they wanted this to work, they would have beaten Fnatic or someone as well as Besiktas (who is the only team they beat) then beat AHQ on Day 2 so that they end up in the semi-finals aginst AHQ and that they have an intimidation advantage over them in the semi-finals.

I mean, it's a viable strategy, but it's not working. If they want it to work, they have to go 2-0 on day two otherwise they'll be up against SKT in the semi-finals.

Realistically they'd want another team up against SKT in the semis on the off chance that the 4th place team has a good day/SKT has a bad day and SKT T1 gets eliminated which would mean that it would be TSM (3rd place) vs. 4th place.

TSM would rather lose in the semis than lose in the finals? No.

I like TSM but they looked bad in all three games. They better get it together for AHQ or they will be out today.

And I can VERY easily see SKT sweeping all the way through. They have looked STUPID good. Their whole team. Not just faker.

They play AHQ today. Should be a win. And they play FNTC. I give FNTC more of a chance because they seem more unpredictable. (The ease of the win over TSM win was a surprise to me. But SKT's teamwork looks amazing. Everyone is in the right place at the right time. They made TSM look like a bronze 6 team last night.)

Plan worked.
