With a new season comes new stars and new stories. Here is one of the players you should look out for in 2015!
Team: OMG
Region: LPL China
Position: AD carry
Think about this for a second: Uzi has reached the World Championship finals with Star Horn Royal Club two seasons in a row. That’s impressive all by itself, but when you consider that he was the only consistent member of the team in those two years, it’s all the more amazing. Decisive, aggressive, and immensely talented, Uzi simply wins games.
This season provides him with one of the most unique challenges of any player in the professional scene. With two second-place finishes under his belt, can he cross that final bridge and take home the Summoner’s Cup? And, what’s more, can he do it on a brand-new team?
For the past two years on Royal Club, Uzi has been the undeniable primary carry. Regularly, his team would build compositions entirely around keeping himself alive, relying on the AD carry to, well, carry teamfights. And more often than not, it worked. His hyper aggressive playstyle combined with a large amount of peel would allow him to stay alive long enough to chunk down every last opponent.
Now, however, he’s been signed to OMG, a lineup containing players more than capable of carrying themselves. Between Gogoing up top, Cool in the mid, and Loveling roaming the jungle, far less pressure will be put on Uzi to hard carry every game. As a result, opposing teams will be far less likely to focus on shutting him down. He’ll be given more space to farm to his heart’s content. He might even be allowed to play even more aggressively in lane, with less fear of counter-ganks when he goes in.
The question remains: Who will support Uzi on OMG? As it stands, they’ve got two support players on the roster in Cloud and Dada7. At Worlds, Dada7 started more regularly due to disagreements between Cloud and San. However, now with San out of the starting roster, it’s unclear who will take over the position of Uzi’s supporting half.
Rumors have it that OMG is trying out just about everyone on the team in the role, and particularly Loveling, who is known to be extremely skilled as a support. It’s unclear if they’ll make a swap from another position down into the bottom lane, but no matter who heads down South, they’ll have to learn to keep up with Uzi’s speedy, all-in style.
Either that, or Uzi will have to adjust to allowing someone else on his team to carry. The big challenge for Uzi and OMG this season will be bringing the lone gun under control. And with the LPL starting up again January 6, we’ll find out sooner than later.
