I find it funny that so many people in league dont take Esports seriously and why ? I mean pros do make millions and millions, how is this not a serious sport... I find it a joke trying to get good without a team because of the lack of real players. I understand its a game and all but doesn't mean you shouldnt take Esports serious. Pretty much I look at it like this, If I spend all my time in a video game anyways and so do you, wouldn't you want to be a pro, making money? ijs * well atleast try*

Pros do NOT make millions and millions. If you're a team has an advertising dynasty like TSM, or that wins the World Championship, then yeah you make a lot of money, but it's not close to millions and millions. Even the S3 champs, SKT T1 K, only took home 300k in their winning year. Yes, that's alot, but only 5 pro players out of the 200+ in the world earn that. Your average pro player sees jut shy of 6 figures per year if they have a popular stream, but for the most part they take home a pretty average wage. It's really interesting to me that you thought players earned 'millions and millions'. I wonder where you go that idea. There used to be a website that listed the annual earning sof ever player who played in a proessional competition since 2009, but unfortunately I couldn't find it to link it for you.

EDIT: also, E-sports is a relatively new phenomenon, at least in mainstream media. Give it time. No one took television, rock n' roll, or the United States of America when they were first starting out either.

First of all, it is a game. The amount of players that go pro is so small at the moment, it's just a dream for most of us. Yes we would like to make a living playing a video game, however, most of us aren't good enough to. It's the same as sports. If NBA players make MILLIONS upon MILLIONS playing basketball, why doesn't everyone take that super seriously instead of just playing once a week at a park treating it as a game? It's because it's a hobby. If you choose to go down this career path of a pro league player, by all means, go for it. However, you also have to understand that if you put in 2 or 3 years into this game, to try to go pro and fail, that's 2 or 3 years of your life that you could have invested into education for another career. However, that is entirely up to you.

Let me start out by saying you are delusional if you think that these kids are making millions of dollars.

I read an article, the average league player makes 1 million and thats a bad player... so its fact.

No, the "fact" is that you read an article—or you are lying.

You say that since you have played for two years that it makes sense that you should want to try to go pro. Okay, that's nice. Not everyone feels the same way.

I have played about 1,900 hours of League. That's not the highest by any means, but it's a large amount of time. I don't feel the desire to pursue a career playing League, I wouldn't want to.

I take Esports seriously in the sense that I respect the validity of the competition and I can appreciate the skill of the players. However, when I play a game of League, it's not exactly what I would call Esports. It's gaming. I'm Gold 1. If someone in one of my ranked games told me he was chasing the dream of turning pro, I would probably not take him seriously. Why would I?

If you aren't challenger and playing on a challenger team, you have no chance. You're either good enough to make money from it or you aren't. I wouldn't waste your life chasing that pipe dream.

And for the record, these kids are being salaried at $25k. That's the Riot contract. Then you consider their ad revenue, which can be thousands or tens of thousands per month for the popular players. Then add on donations, subscription income, sponsor income, and merchandise, and you're looking at six figure incomes for a select few players.

I've heard of two asian streamers signing contracts to stream that were around one million dollars.

But let's get back to reality here. For the average pro League player, they are making less than $30k per year. That's less money than someone that spent two years in community college learning how to fix computers and went and got a job at an IT help desk.

Instead of chasing this unrealistic pipe dream of becoming a professional gamer, why don't you learn a marketable skill that will help you in the real world?

Well if you mean "take it serious" from a non gamer's view... the reason is because it is a video game that's why.

If you mean "why LoL players" don't take it seriously.... it is probably because they haven't figured out how to enjoy it yet. Being a "nooob" to LCS action is massively confusing as to what matches to watch and why.

lol you guys are soo blinded to the fact and thats what seperates the men/ pros from boys/ noobs. goodluck in your league lives, lmfao. all i am saying is if you waste time playing why not make a team and try cuz you could end up being good and making money. if you don't believe me, that they make mills, fine by me but believe what u want. I obviously dont mean they make all there money from league alone, smart players stream and get youtube famous. have you forgotten how much money, youtubers make? from simply getting views you make money and if your a pro and your super good why wouldn't people like you and watch you? you have to be smart man, just like how a nfl star and bastket ball players are, you think they just go in the biz and play basketball? smart players would get into t.v commericals and different things to get sponsered and make tons of more money, same how league players are. ijs this a intellectual debate, remember guys! you can believe what u want... dont take the post so serious
