The Recap: GPL Week 5

The final week of the GPL group stages has passed, concluding the standings for each team. This split, there are no tiebreakers – but that isn't to say there haven't been surprises and disappointments.
H4t3 hasn't had the strongest season in the GPL, but showed up impressively strong in the team's last game of the split. Nobody on the Sentinels could avoid the burn of his Piercing Lights, netting him an eye-opening 15-1 score line.
Huynh "Safety" Van Tan
Safety is a danger to everybody else: his monumental 5-0-10 KDA on Pantheon against Taiwanese Group A leaders AHQ was almost single-handedly responsible for ending their perfect run. In fact, with a 100% kill participation rate against a team best known for their near-flawless team-fighting, he might be the overall MVP of the week.
Chen "Winds" Peng-Nien
A 12-3-6 record against the Saigon Jokers is no easy feat. Though his team has struggled to keep it together after Mistake's leave of absence, Winds has continued his role as a phenomenal play-maker, with a Kha'Zix that refuses to be tamed.
Their show of strength came far too late to allow entry into the playoffs, but the Manila Eagles' very last match of the season certainly surprised the Singapore Sentinels. They finally learned to turn games off their enemy's slightest mistakes. Just one positioning error at a jungle fight secured them a highly unexpected victory.
On the flip side, losing to the Manila Eagles is a black eye for the Singapore Sentinels. They came into the spring split expecting to be among the strongest non-Taiwanese teams of the Southeast Asian region, but have instead faced constant disappointment. Their loss to the Eagles doesn't knock them out of playoffs nor does it give the Eagles enough to enter the quarterfinals, but it's a stark and painful reminder of the prestige they've lost since the first GPL season.
GAMES OF THE WEEK
Saigon Fantastic Five vs Singapore Sentinels GoNy was having a hard time against BeNw, dropping a couple early kills to Tryndamere, but SF5 excelled despite the Sentinels' early lead. With GoNy so far behind, his Stand United had no impact, while BeNw became an increasingly unstoppable threat. Saigon Jokers vs Taipei Snipers Winds was impressive as always; the Taipei Snipers duo lane was under siege at the 7 minute mark when Safety rushed in with the assault. Although Awei was successfully eliminated, Winds' sudden appearance blew down the Jokers offense. A successful kill turned instead into a 3-1 rout. Singapore Sentinels vs Manila Eagles At 13 minutes into the game, things were already looking dire yet again for the Manila Eagles. The Sentinels, who've never had trouble with the team throughout their two-year history, could perhaps be forgiven for thinking they could muscle their way to the blue buff. However, with DDan's Grand Skyfall neutralized by Rocket Grab, and a Dragon's Rage onto Chawy, the Eagles sent them flying and gained a crucial edge back into the game.OVERACHIEVERS OF THE WEEK
