Fantasy Love/Hate: Week 6

The bizarre parity over in NA LCS is making settling on a fantasy roster a lot harder than it used to be, and those Cloud 9 and TSM players that everyone grabbed to anchor their fantasy lineup aren't proving the safe bets they once promised to be. But there are still some clearly lopsided matchups this week, and at least one worthwhile gamble for a brave fantasy owner.

FOR FANTASY LCS WEEK 5, WE LOVE…

Hai (vs. COL/EG) You can't take much for granted in NA LCS these days, and even Cloud 9 have started having so many ups-and-downs that they look like they’re taking tips from Fnatic, EU’s resident inconsistency kings. They've also given both their opponents this week a win apiece, which hardly inspires confidence. However, Cloud 9 are still the favorites in these matchups, and compLexity's habit of letting opposing mid laners slap them around the Rift means that Hai should be in for a good week. In the first four weeks of the summer split, compLexity allowed mid laners to break the 30-point mark in 5 games, including a game where Shiphtur racked up more than 50 points. Even if Hai only has an average game against EG, there's a great chance that he'll still have a banner week. The same logic applies to Voyboy, who is getting the exact same matchups this week. While Curse can be a little more volatile, Voyboy should still benefit from compLexity's mid-issues. If you can’t snag Hai, Voyboy may be a viable alternative this week. Mimer (vs. GMB/FNC) All aboard the Mimer bandwagon! Last week's Kayle performance against the Copenhagen Wolves (13/2/5) definitely caught our attention, and he has some of the best potential of any top laner this week. We wouldn't bench Wickd or Balls for Mimer, but he's definitely worth a gamble for anyone else this week. You're unlikely to get burned too badly due to his consistently solid play, and there's even some explosive potential here. Despite the big names they’re facing off against, Supa Hot Crew have some very winnable games this week. SHC have yet to lose to Fnatic or Gambit and Mimer posted 16 points apiece in his previous meetings with these teams. Take a player that's looking hot and put him against two teams whose seasons are in jeopardy and you have a great chance at some surprise fantasy points. Be careful, though, as you can never count either of these veteran squads out.

But we hate…

Kerp (vs. ALL/SK) The odds of Kerp doing anything special this week are pretty poor. He's got games against both Alliance and SK, which means he's laning against Froggen and Jesiz, two players that are very good at shutting down their opposition. Five times this season, Jesiz has kept his opponent from scoring more than 12 fantasy points, and in Week 3 he kept Kerp to negative points. Mid laners against Alliance have scarcely had better luck, scoring 12 or fewer points in seven games across the first four weeks. In Week 2, Kerp posted just 5 points in mid against Alliance. If you have an alternate mid laner this week, this is a good time to think about using him. Kerp's going to have to buck some trends if he's going to come out on top. Amazing (vs. CLG/LMQ) Perhaps "hate" is too strong a word here. Let's say we are, well, deeply concerned. You’ll have two issues with running Amazing this week. First, TSM are playing CLG and LMQ, two teams that have left TSM winless, and their performance last week suggests they're not completely out of the wood with their own problems. Second, Amazing's performance against both of those teams was particularly disappointing. He went almost scoreless in his Week 2 game against CLG, and he was held to 6 points against LMQ. On top of that, in the first four weeks of the season, CLG held the enemy jungler to fewer than 10 points in 5 of 10 games. Add it all up, and Amazing looks like a bad risk to take this week.
