In this edition of Lolesports' Pocket Picks, Henrik "Froggen" Hansen braves the Freljord to show us just what it takes to master Anivia, the Cryophoenix.
Froggen's Anivia is the definition of a Pocket Pick. He's continued to use it as a threat for opponents for his entire five plus year career. Just think about that, Anivia has been non-existent in the global meta for much of that time - but every single champion select you HAVE to be ready for his Anivia. He has poured so many hours into Anivia and continued to master it over all these years. It's hard to think of a single player who has put more time into any champion other than Froggen and his Anivia.

I remember going into scrims and agreeing to leave Anivia open and try to counter it. The idea was often simple: Pick an Assassin, play 1-3-1, and just do not get caught by the wall combo. The Game 1 plan quickly went out the window and Anivia was banned in Game 2 [laughs].
It is very rare you play against a person who just completely mastered a champion. He knew every limit and you never felt safe on the map because Anivia can just catch you in so many locations -- and 1v9 a team fight. Anivia added so much pressure on the pick and ban phase when playing EG and it was one of the reasons I hated playing against them. Krepo was easy to beat in lane though. ;)

Froggen has incredible situational awareness on Anivia. From recognizing wall situations, to seeing when people are chilled by Anivia's ulti to get max E damage, Froggen not only understands the intricacies of the champion — but also almost every conceivable situation where he can get an edge with her.
Julian "Pastrytime" Carr
He's just very aware of the limits of Anivia, knowing when to kite and when to turn the aggression up. His major strength historically has been his willingness to experiment with build paths, especially in slower metagames. Tear, Mejai's, Warmog's was a legit build on Anivia that actually made sense.
Froggen also used to run 15 AD runes into the Kassadin match up to win it very heavily early, showing he could cater his setup to his opponent and make the most out of the champion.

Over the years, Froggen and Anivia have impressed friend and foe alike. Together they've made some amazing plays, and with Froggen's help, you'll learn how to pull off some of the coldest combos on the Rift.
