Alliance ended their four game losing streak with a pair of emphatic victories over Gambit Gaming and Supa Hot Crew, but Fnatic is still nipping at their heels after their own 2-0 week. Their wins have turned the rest of a league into a race for 3rd, and that race has a different leader on a weekly basis. Millenium and the Supa Hot Crew sit tied for third with a 12-10 record after Team ROCCAT and SK Gaming both suffered 0-2 weeks. Even after such dismal performances, they’re only one or two games out with two weeks to go.

Games of the week

SK Gaming vs Millenium Easily the most exciting game of the week, SK Gaming against Millenium was a back and forth affair where the teams traded blows for 52 minutes. It was a game heavily influenced by trades. SK Gaming controlled early turrets, but Millenium hung tough by securing dragons. The Baron dance provided the most entertaining fight of the game when Millenium started Baron, but SK intervened and was able to ace Millenium. Unfortunately, SK but lost four members in the process. The final kill of the fight went to nRated’s Braum which showed that a large mustachioed man can even outfight an ascended mage (Kerp’s Xerath) after a long engagement. Unfortunately, the Rift’s resident macho man wasn’t enough to stop Milennium for securing their own late ace and closing out the game. Fnatic vs Copenhagen Wolves This game was the Rekkles show. He played Vayne and had seven kills by 16 minutes. He recorded a pentakill at 21 minutes to notch his 14th kill. He ended the game with 18 kills and three assists, and it only took the team 31 minutes to complete their stomp of the Copenhagen Wolves. The coup de grâce of it all? Not only did Rekkles set a new EU LCS record with eighteen kills, he led everyone in creep score at 301. The performance earned him overall MVP for Week 9.

Top performers of the week

Ilyas “Shook” Hartsema - Jungler - Alliance Shook’s Riven coming out of the jungle blew the doors off of both Gambit Gaming and the Supa Hot Crew. He had a 7/0/3 game against Gambit where he was the primary impetus behind the Alliance victory thanks to his early, uncontrollable snowball. Shook only had a 2/1/6 KDA against the Supa Hot Crew, but his fancy feet during a particular engagement in the bottom lane forced the Crew to overcommit, and Alliance broke their back for it. More importantly, Riven is a fringe jungle pick internationally right now, but Shook’s was strong enough to potentially draw bans moving forward in the EU LCS. Søren “SorenxD” Holdt Frederiksen - Middle lane - Copenhagen Wolves SorenXD, the new guy on the block for the Copenhagen Wolves, had a solid debut, particularly against SK Gaming. He had a 7/1/6 KDA on his Orianna, and led his team through a game that looked nip & tuck before CW blew the game wide open around the 26 minute mark. He had a much tougher game against Fnatic (3/5/3), but that was his first LCS game, and Rekkles was a force of nature throughout the contest.

What’s Next?

The European LCS starts back up on Thursday, July 24th with Team ROCCAT battling Gambit Gaming. Thanks to ROCCAT’s rough Week 9, they’re battling to stay out of relegation. The week will also feature a clash of the titans as Alliance battles Fnatic on Thursday.
