The title of the post speaks for itself.

I think it is an interesting stat, and might reveal who some of the better players are, even when their team is not giving them much gold. Being able to do dmg without requiring large amounts of CS or taking kills is an extremely useful skill.

Understandably, two players would need to play the same champion before they can be compared.

That's some deep analytics territory. While some may be more cut and dry, because some champs are flexed to different lanes it can change the speed of that champ leveling and gold income. Another wrinkle is do you determine by gold spent or gold earned?

From calculation point it's rather simple.

Damage done to champions./Gold spent on items.

I wrote gold spent on items, because at some point gold becomes worthless. When you are at full build+elixir, then it doesn't really matter how much more gold you gain. This stat would be most interesting in games, that aren't reaching lategame.
