The Next Big Fantasy LCS Star
To call Woolite a surprise would be an understatement. He was in Challenger Series as an up-and-comer, but the expectation of a smooth transition to the "big leagues" was a stretch. In the first three weeks of the EU LCS, Woolite has not only silenced any critics, he's excelled in his ADC role.
In his first two weeks, he scored 119.19 fantasy points, a total better than early round draft picks Bjergsen, WildTurtle, and Sneaky. And his Week 3 performance was another brilliant outing. He scored 51.80 points, the top ADC mark in the LCS, and surpassed his projected score by a whopping 15 points. At this point, it's hard to ignore the hype.
The Key Factors
So, how does he do it? It's a combination of three things: strong assists numbers, high kill counts, and over-performing in his teams' wins. Through Week 3, his total assists (44) are good for fourth best in the ADC ranks and he's the third highest total in the entire LCS for total kills (43). In CW's two wins, Woolite has crushed all competition when it comes to scoring fantasy points in wins (44.3 pts/win); the next closest ADC is Altec, hovering at 33.0 pts/win. But even in losses (13.7 pts/loss, higher than ADC average of 11.9 pts/loss), the mechanics and star power are still there.
Woolite's skillset should be described as versatile. In his Week 3 games against Millenium and Gambit Gaming, Woolite showcased every style. Against Milleniun, Woolite was involved in a rotation that used a 4v2 engagement under the enemy tower for First Blood. He could also play the solo game. During their match against Gambit Gaming, Woolite dueled against Darien and won in a battle of skill shots for an early killing spree and accounted for CW's first three kills. From solo kills, rotations, skill shots, and positioning, Woolite did it all.
He is rewarded when his team engages in skirmishes and fights because of his smart "trade kills" play style. Games like his 9-3-9 KDA score against Gambit Gaming (a CW loss) should be a trend as a result. A negative to his decision to always trade will be high death counts throughout the split. His 23 total deaths are nearly 10 more than elite ADCs like Vasilii, Tabzz, and Rekkles (9, 14, and 12 respectively). Week 3's 14-5-12 total KDA score may be an outlier to a standard Woolite week, but his season averages through Week 3 of 5.4 kills, 2.87 deaths, and 5.5 assists on a losing team, look great on paper.
Moving Forward
And that's the scariest thing about Woolite; he's putting up these sorts of numbers despite playing on a team sitting at the bottom of the standings. Currently, the Copenhagen Wolves are a mess. They chase in fights or get picked off against bigger numbers. The same mistakes in Week 2's match against ROCCAT, as multiple CW champions were picked off in 2v1 situations, occurred in Week 3's match against Millenium.
That being said, this is a young team that improves on a week-to-week basis (their loss against Gambit Gaming was only decided through poor late-game execution). But, with a little discipline, CW could undergo a similar transformation as Supa Hot Crew -- a team that plays through their stellar individual talents, MrRalleZ and SELFIE, and win because of the lane phase. Imagine Woolite's overall numbers once CW can win consistently.
Woolite's individual success in both real play and fantasy is a compliment to his skill. He's been an outlier to his team's current state. He provides a great package for any fantasy ADC and belongs amongst the elite tier of fantasy stars despite typically being drafted in the latter rounds. Ignoring his team's record, Woolite's upside and consistent production should not be glossed over. The improving lane phase, stellar game sense, and "trade" mentality separate him from other players. This is a star waiting to explode.
