An idea for spectating LoL games
This idea is somewhat piggybacked off of some concepts I noticed playing the beta for EA's Battlefield 1. In that game, if you die, your view is zoomed out completely so that you have a strategic image of the entire battlefield. From there, you choose where you want to deploy, and the screen zooms in to the area you chose. In my opinion, this camera method gives a much, MUCH more comprehensive view, orientation, and understanding of the battlefield, and in my opinion, is far superior to the current RTS and MOBA method of instantly "jumping" a fixed camera around the map.
So, applying these concepts to E-sports and League spectating in general, wouldn't it be fantastic if the camera view started zoomed out, giving a view of the whole map? From there, the spectator/caster could manipulate the camera in a smooth manner, zooming in fluidly over important events/battles/etc, then zooming back out to re-orient the viewer!
I understand that, yes, this mechanic would require some serious graphical processing power if the whole map is being rendered in one image. Also, in the "complete view", players would need to be "marked" with icons, as not everyone has an insanely high-resolution monitor. That's why I see this technology only being used in E-sports events, for now.
I hope this post catches on. I am excited to see this idea adapted by Riot!
