Worlds Group Seeding
While worlds 2017 has been quite fun (Fnatic, POE and Misfits, Team SoloMeme) I really do think seeding this year was unfair. There really should be more accurate and better seeding. It seems kind of sad to me that TSM (Number 1 NA seed placed in POOL 2) got a much easier group than EDG (Number 1 LPL seed in pool 1) or G2 (Number 1 EU, pool 1). It also seems unfair that Korea, as the dominator of this esport (other than Royal this year) doesn't get enough respect in their seeding. Don't get me wrong, Fnatic was just bloody amazing to watch, but we have to consider the fairness that ALL teams should receive.
Some people have been saying expert opinion, but I honestly think regional bias will take over when deciding the 5-12th teams and will not be quite objective enough, since most of the experts will probably be casters or other pros that didn't make it that year.
My proposal is to increase the pools from 3 to 4. The rule of only 1 region's team per group still applies. Pool 1 should have all three Korean teams and the 1st team of whichever region performed the best at Worlds 2017 OR MSI 2018 (for simplicity reasons lets assume it's China) Pool 2 should have Number 1 seeds from the other major regions (EU, LMS, NA), and the number 2 Chinese seed (see above). Here, the number 1 seed from the region that performed the best at worlds 2017/MSI2018 AFTER KR and CN will be given the group without a Korean team (for simplicity let's assume EU) Pool 3 should have the remaining number 2 seeds, along with the wildcard slot that the Gigabyte Marines took this year (they made it to MSI, they deserve the credit). Pool 4 is fine as it is now.
Here is a Potential Example of the Groups with the same assumptions (China and Europe are the 2nd and 3rd best performers) Pool 1: KR2 KR3 KR1 CN1 Pool 2: CN2 LMS1 NA1 EU1 Pool 3: NA2 EU2 LMS2 WC Pool 4: EU3 NA3 CN3 LMS3 (or any wildcard teams if they make it out instead of them)
This system would ensure that number 1 teams won't unfairly get worse teams than number 2 teams because of RNG, and also is a lot more accurate skill displayer of teams. Sure, Pool 3 Teams and Pool 4 Teams still have the "please don't give me KR" rule, but I think to them, CN1 will provide fair enough competition. It's A LOT better than assuming that EU1 or NA1 will provide equal competition to KR3.
What do you guys think?
