Once you first master a champion, you never actually forget how to play that champion unless they get a large rework that changes how they play. They might become a little bit rusty after not playing the champion for a while, but they never forget how to play their champion. This applies more to characters in other competitive games (mostly fighting games, where a player may pick up a secondary but still know how to play his main), but still applies to League.

Since they also play League of Legends for a living, they have more than enough time to both learn new champions and practice champions in their existing champion pool.

They dedicated their whole lives to LoL. They play the game for more than 12hrs a day.

lets not forget that the pro's plan for the match ahead and probably have a few comps in mind so the said player goes and ''brushes up'' on the champs that will work or they want to throw together.

thats how they stay so competitive on fairly large champion pools, lets also remember some players still have very limited pools, however this is getting better all the time.

if you look on open.gg at the pro accounts, granted due to matchmaking and not being able to do 5v5 above diamond 1 (GG riot....seriously....urgh) they are playing on tourney realms which we have no access too for there actual practice. you will see each week they have relatively different champions ''played'' quite a lot.

The same way musicians get into Carnegie Hall, practice. They constantly work on mechanics, laning, jg, farming, not being out of position. They work on teamwork and communication to execute ganks, team fights and so on. They are sponsored to play the game and master their champs. This mean they don't have to get a job like the rest of us schmucks. They are paid to play LoL. That is their job.

I will say this.

I'm currently Mastering Taliyah. I've gotten her to Level 7 and every thing and I've beaten a lot of hard counters in the Mid Lane with her. I feel extremely comfortable on Taliyah.

Here's the kicker. I've also 'Mastered' Syndra, LeBlanc, Azir, etc. However, I feel just like you. When I go back to just randomly play that Champion, since I play with a Tournament team, I always feel just a little bit rusty every time. Not like the Oh I forgot how to play you but just like Oh wow, I've forgotten a lot of little mechanical or cool niche's to this champion.

That said! ..I honestly don't know how they keep it real on such large Champion pools.

Play 10+ hours a day nonstop and you'll master champions quickly too. However, pros do NOT constantly add champions to their champion pool. They have a pool of about 5 champions (preferably 6 if you get targetted in PnB, which is very rare), and they constantly trade champions in and out as the meta shifts. Maintaining more than that drops the quality of your play. Not only that, you generally have a goal of what you will be doing during a (professional) game a week beforehand, so you'll narrow down your practice to champions that you will be using.
