Week 5
Bing: Is it worth it to drop Piglet or does he have later potential?
Jayway: Go ahead and drop Piglet. This split, he's been at the bottom portion of all ADC's (13.0 pts/game, 3rd to last) and has yet to break into the Top 8 of ADC's for any single week (he was the #9 overall ADC Week 4 despite putting up 40.69 pts). You can grab another carry like TIP Apollo (owned in under 3% of leagues, 19.2 pts/game) or CW Freeze (~7%, 25.2 pts/game) instead. Also, with TL Keith stepping into the starting spot for Week 5, Piglet's future is unknown.
Ben: Tough matchup this week. Do I play Soren or Keith for flex?
JW: Soren. Keith is still untested; is he a one-hit wonder or not? Soren has been on the upswing the past two weeks (Overall No. 1 Mid lane and No. 5 respectively). And he gets two winnable matchups against ROC and MYM (who give up 18.56 and 20.59 pts/game to opposing Mid laners). Meanwhile, Keith must contend with NA's top dog in TSM (who allow only 13.39 pts/game to opposing ADC's) as well as an upstart WinterFox squad (coming off a 2-0 week).
Thomas: Jungler problems.. Airwaks or IWDominate?
JW: Airwaks. Another CW vs TL debate and the Wolves come out ahead this time, too. CW is 3-1 over the past couple weeks while TL is scrambling to piece together a cohesive lineup. IWDominate faces off against a resilient TSM team (who allow 9.1 pts/game to opposing Junglers) with strong laners while Airwaks gets two weak teams to feast on (ROC and MYM each allows 17+ pts/game to opposing Junglers). These two players produced about equally last split (separated by just 0.11 pts/game for Summer 2014) so you want Airwaks, the guy who has a better shot at winning. Victorious Junglers score 23.33 pts/win; losing Junglers? Just 8.99 pts/game.
Juan: Yellowstar vs nRated?
JW: Yellowstar is your man. Although SK Gaming is undefeated, nRated hasn't been reaping nearly as many points (17.92 pts/game) as Yellowstar (27.4 pts/game); nearly a 10 pts/game differential, some supports don't even score that many in a week! Even in Fnatic's two losses, Yellowstar averaged 24.44 pts/game anyway. Don't be afraid of the SK-FNC matchup, he can bounce back later against GMB (who allow 17.23 pts/game to opposing Supports).
Steven: Is there any point to having anything other than AD/Mid in your flex slot?
JW: Generally, no. AD's and Mid's outscore the other positions on average regardless of winning or losing. But, in some cases, yes: if your roster has FNC Reignover and SK Svenskeren (who are averaging over 20 pts/game each), or a similar combination in the other roles. A good, ballpark average that would warrant starting a non-AD/Mid player in the Flex spot is 20 pts/game.
Azerta: I have all 5 SK members on my fantasy team. So far it seems to be going well. Is this a smart decision?
JW: Yes. Only because SK Gaming is the clear frontrunner to win the EU LCS and have shown little signs of stopping. Their current run is very reminiscent of Cloud 9's debut in Season 3 (25-3 record). During this time period, all 5 of the C9 players finished in the top 15 of overall scorers! Of course, you will take a loss if SK drops a game, but there's a legitimate argument that they'll run the table and go undefeated this split.
