Day 1 Takeaway: Detonation vs Pentagram...

I for one will say that I walked into the Play-In expecting the performance of Japan's representative to be less than adequate as proven in previous international events. But that has now turned into a realization: with enough exposure sometimes judging the team playing for a region is better off than judging the region based off of a team and sometimes the teams; i.e the TSM perception.

I saw more potential out of Detonation today than I've seen out of Pentagram/Rampage in the past year and a half or so, granted 2016 was still the best showing of a Japanese rep despite not advancing. And it had me wondering...is Pentagram the sole reason of Japan's perceived bottom of the barrel ranking among emerging regions due to how abysmal last year looked? I just remember Detonation's performance giving a shallow low-mid to mid-level opinion on the regional scene with grounds to improve. Just feels like a really bland oversight and I could be wrong come Day 3.

All and all, just enjoyable to watch despite the obvious blunders - they had that 2-0 day on lock! But we've seen teams before get away with murder; it's nothing new but it's sure disappointing to the diehard......yes I just compared C9's game to SKT last year against any of the teams they did that magic-in-a-bottle teamfight mess they did. I just know with Infinity tomorrow I'll take their international shot with a grain rather than a mound.

Regions don't win games. Teams do. So just because Rampage stunk last year doesn't mean that DFM is going to stink this year. And Japan sends its summer tournament champ and that's it. So that means that the best team throughout the year doesn't always go. The best team on 2 or 3 days in the summer goes.
This team is better than Rampage was last year. A lot better.

That said that was their chance at C9. They couldn't finish it. Kabum hasn't shown anything so maybe we'll see Detonation in the next round as a #2.
