The Breakdown with Jatt: ROX vs. KT
Hey everyone, Jatt here.
As many of you know, we made 30 episodes of Team Fight Breakdown last year, which can be found here. It was super fun and rewarding to make these videos, but when we thought about extending the series into 2017 and beyond, we wanted to broaden our source material a little bit.
This year, instead of just doing team fights (though we will still cover plenty of team fights) we wanted to be able to cover all types of things in competitive League of Legends. Individual champion mechanics, macro strategies, maybe an episode devoted to jungle pathing, really anything that comes to mind and can be interesting "should" be on the table.
Our first episode of The Breakdown centers around KT Rolster’s Deft from the LCK. Funnily enough it still just covers a single team fight, but only looks at it from the point of view of Deft's Ezreal. To that end, this week's episode breaks down Deft's team fighting on Ezreal into a few key points:
- How Ezreal has better target selection than most marksmen
- How Ezreal has strong burst combos if executed properly
- How Deft is amazing at tracking enemy threats and CC
- How Deft is insanely good at predicting his opponents
Let's also break down the itemization of Deft's Ezreal here and see why it's so much different than what other marksmen build.
Deft’s build in this game:
- Trinity Force
- Ionian Boots of Lucidity
- Muramana
- Lord Dominik's Regards
- Quicksilver Sash
- Blade of the Ruined King
Why does Deft make these build decisions on Ezreal? Here are some factors:
- Mystic Shot cannot critically strike -- but it does apply almost every other on-hit effect, including Muramana's.
- Successful Mystic Shots reduce all ability cooldowns by 1.5 seconds.
- Max rank Arcane shift cooldown is 13 seconds. With 30% CDR, as found in Deft’s build, it drops to 9.1 seconds. With one Mystic shot, it drops to 7.6, with two, 6.1. In fact, if you Arcane Shift then land three consecutive Mystic Shots, Arcane Shift will be off cooldown to use again!
- Arcane Shift also counts as a single target spell for the purposes of Muramana burst.
- As a spellcaster, Ezreal has heavy mana constraints and the extra mana from Muramana+Trinity Force come in handy.
- Ezreal also procs Trinity Force pretty effortlessly throughout fights due to the spellweaving patterns.
- Blade of the Ruined King (BOTRK) is arguably a good choice on most marksmen - but it is even better on Ezreal as he doesn’t care about not having crit on his attack speed item. Not to mention Mystic Shot counts for BOTRK passive.
- BOTRK active is part of Ezreal’s main burst combos.
- Finally, while every ADC likes Quicksilver Sash (QSS) - it’s more clutch for Ezreal who relies so much on mobility. Having QSS allows Ezreal one mistake per fight. Ezreal can more freely arcane shift in to burst if he knows that he can QSS+Flash out of any trouble.
