How will the Summer Split MVP be chosen?
Every LCS Split there are a few phenomenal players who stand above the rest. They inspire and impress with their exceptional performances and contributions to their team's accomplishments.
This split, we're still honoring players and coaches, but the process of how we're awarding their efforts has been updated. Read on for more info on the methodology behind the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Rookie of the Split, All-LCS Team, and Coach of the Split awards.
What defines the MVP?
The Most Valuable Player award will be given to the most outstanding LCS player in the Regular Season of the 2016 LCS Summer Split. One player in NA and one player in EU will be selected based upon statistical analysis and the informed judgment of our voters.
What defines a Player of the Game?
After each LCS game, the player who had the highest impact on their team winning will be selected by the broadcast team as the Player of the Game. The broadcast team will use statistical analysis of in-game play and informed judgment to make their decision.
Who counts as a Rookie?
Rookies who are eligible for Rookie of the Split include any player who has played in one or fewer series in a professional league prior to this Split. Players who have been substitutes for an extended time in the past aren't considered rookies, nor are players who were only starters for a short time.
What defines a Coach of the Split?
The Coach of the Split will be decided by a balloting process, explained below. The Coach award will be judged based on a team's in-game strategy, picks and bans, adaptability, and the performance of the team vs. the perceived skill of its players.
Who votes on the awards?
TLDR; This Split, the MVP will be decided by a combination of cumulative Player of the Games, voting by the LCS broadcast team, 3rd party media, and pro teams.
Rookie of the Split, All-LCS Team, and Coach of the Split awards will be decided by votes from the LCS broadcast team, 3rd party media, and pro teams.
The LCS broadcast team will get between 10-15 ballots and consists of casters and other key analytical members of the broadcast team, including observers and statisticians. We'll also be giving 10-15 ballots to 3rd party media organizations with reputable subject matter experts who cover competitive League of Legends.
The pro teams will be invited to vote as well. Each team will select a player representative to submit a single ballot decided upon as a team. A coach representative from the team will also submit a single ballot, decided upon by the team's coaching staff. There will be 20 total ballots from Pro Teams.
The exact ballot count will vary between EU and NA and there are no restrictions on whom a voter can vote for.
What does a ballot look like?
Voters in each region will receive a ballot that will take votes for:
- MVP (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place)
- All LCS 1st and 2nd team (best player and second best player by position)
- Rookie of the split (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place)
- Coach of the Split (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place)
A 1st place vote for MVP will be worth three points, a 2nd place vote will be worth two points, and a 3rd place vote will be worth one point.
How does Player of the Game factor in?
Player of the Game will be tracked throughout the year and will influence the MVP at the end of the year. In a standard ballot, a 1st place vote will be worth three points. A Player of the Game vote will also be worth three points towards the MVP.
This means, that if a player were to win Player of the Game in every single game, they would get a max of 108 points towards MVP -- which would still be slightly less than what is available from the ballot process.
Once we're further along in the voting process, we'll announce our panel of voters. Additionally, after the awards are announced, we'll make all of the votes from the panel members available online.
