Nv vs Gcu game 4
Just some quick thoughts here
I love that gcu focused on getting renekton ahead early - does way more for team than focusing on getting bot ahead early game and he can translate his lead into leads for team elsewhere on the map. But the way they played around their 3/0/0 renekton - or rather the way the didn't play around him -- disgusted me. Gcu kept trying to run a 1-3-1 or 1-2-1 split push and let renekton get 3 man ganked for it REPEATEDLY. Is 1-3-1 good in some scenarios? Sure. But in early mid game, ahri isn't a solo threat on enemy towers and would be better off either setting up picks by shoving in and rotating to back up the renekton or the bot duo or... just doing a 4-1 split push. At one point, gcu's jungler was even in his own jungle farming while all 3 lanes were shoved to enemy tier 2 towers. These kind of poor rotations, lack of planning and ward control, and selfish play allowed nv to 3 man kill the fed renekton without losing more than minor poke on their tower in their other lanes. If gcu had coordinated better, they could have 4-1 split and deleted the bot duo and grabbed a tower to punish nv for sending 3 people to stop the renekton split. If nv sends less to stop the renek, gcu can still get tower damage 4v3 and renek already showed he wins 1v2. Why not take this win-win strategy instead of doing a 1-3-1 where they just bled away their lead. I can excuse this happening once, but gcu never adjusted their strategy after seeing nv's response the first time. Alternatively, gcu could have 3-2 split (hiding their mid or jungler by securing vision control on one half of the enemy jungle) and punished nv for focusing renekton with 3 people. They almost certainly would have won the 3v3 and been able to grab a tower. Also, their baron forces were very sub-par for the best challenger team. When the enemy toplaner is solo pushing bot, you either force baron and bait out the tp, or you shove in top and mid to force enemies back to their inner towers and THEN force baron. The few seconds it takes the enemy to choose between clearing minion waves or contesting baron and getting to baron from inner towers can make all the difference, but gcu never did this. They just let nv dictate the pace, keeping top and mid in a neutral or nv favored position while they kept track of baron AND split push bot inner tower - further putting camille ahead/allowing her to catch up. If nv is going to hang out that close 4v5, you need to force like I described above or at the very least, blow your flash stun on renekton and get a pick on a carry with the help of your team. By the time camille tp gets her to the fight, it will still be a 4v5 in gcu's favor. I know gcu eventually made a decent play around baron - forcing it and winning the subsequent teamfight, but they had all the tools and setup to do it 15 minutes earlier when they were bleeding away their lead by not proactively punishing their opponents for being 4v5 with seraph splitting bot. Sure it is a big stage, but logic applies - if something is a good move, you need to take it because doing nothing will just put you behind. Here's hoping gcu learns from that game and puts those lessons to use so they can do better next time.
