Incredible Miracle (IM) is cursed with the worst fate in League of Legends: being average.
In a scene where you either want to be the best or at the bottom where you can reevaluate your situation and build for the future, Incredible Miracle has always been in the middle. The Korean team has continually been heralded for its potential, but has never put the pieces together to make a deep run in Champions over the past two years. This year, with a new cast of characters and a wily veteran leading the way, they went into the OGN qualifiers and once again overcame the odds to make it into the Champions 2015 Spring Split. Will this be the year they repair the broken hearts of their loyal fans?
Jeon "Lilac" Ho-jin is one of longest standing professional players in Korean League of Legends, and one of the most respected. Nicknamed ‘The Professor’ for his incredible game knowledge and ability to adapt to any role in the game, he is the only Korean to play all five positions professionally. He started his career on Team OP back in the first OGN Champions season before moving to Incredible Miracle, where he's been since 2012.
While Lilac has struggled in the past to lead Incredible Miracle to the semifinals, 2015 could be the year of The Professor. The top laner on the new Incredible Miracle squad, Lilac is looked upon as the captain who will need to guide his team with almost unmatched experience. In 163 pro games, Lilac has played an astronomical 45 champions, showing he has the talent to play almost any champion at an elite level. His mechanical skill may not be comparable to Save or Flame, but he more than makes up for it with his sharp mind and quick thinking in game. With Captain Lilac at the helm, Incredible Miracle is in the hands of a mature, confident leader who believes they can win in Champions.
If Incredible Miracle has any hope to contend atop the Champions standings, Lilac’s brains and Kim "Frozen" Tae-il’s talent will need to carry them there. Frozen, a player praised for his hard work, has grown into one of the best mid lane prospects in all of Korea.
Originally starting his career with Alienware, he only amounted to a disappointing 2-9 record. Since moving to Incredible Miracle, he’s been on an upswing. Going 9-6 overall and being a huge factor in his team requalifying for 2015 season, Frozen’s brilliant playmaking has given IM a dangerous carry threat they’ve lacked the past two years.
When talking about IM’s ace player, the one game that has to be brought up is last season’s set against reigning champions Samsung Blue. Put up against Bae “dade” Eo-Jin, one of the world’s best players, Frozen locked in Lux and proceeded to go 7/1/6 and carry his team to victory. He isn’t afraid to pick Syndra or other standard champions for the mid lane, but Frozen’s true talent is his ability to pick unorthodox champions, like Lux, and make them work.
His ability to keep teams on their toes with an always revolving champion pool makes Frozen a player that other teams need to worry about planning for against IM.
Lilac and Frozen are a strong one-two punch with their experience and mechanical abilities, but that alone won’t be enough for Incredible Miracle to knock out the competition. Over the past three years, 27 different players have come through the doors of IM. Only four have winning records. Luckily, three of those players make up the rest of IM’s team.
Jungler Kim "Wisdom" Tae-Wan is 9-6 in his short career. He has shown the strength to be a strong player, but will need to improve on his champion pool if IM want to contend with the best. Having only ever played Lee Sin, Evelynn and Kha’zix in his pro career, incorporating new champions into the mix will be crucial for Wisdom if he wants to avoid constantly being banned out.
Bak "TuSin" Jong-ik, the support of the team, is the exact opposite of Wisdom thanks to his deep, expansive champion pool. In only 15 career games, he’s already played eight different champions, with a 3-0 undefeated record on Leona. With his variety of champions, he is another player who can mix up the competition alongside Frozen.
Rounding out the team is AD carry Son "S0NSTAR" Seung-ik. He had a short stint with the KT Arrows before joining Incredible Miracle a few months back. An incredibly strong Lucian player, S0NSTAR took center stage during the OGN qualifiers by securing a Pentakill in their upset victory over the Huya Tigers. With his strong positioning in team fights and his ability to outplay opponents in large skirmishes, S0NSTAR is a player who could catapult IM up the rankings this Spring.
The road to becoming a Champions contender isn’t an easy one, but for the first time in a long time, Incredible Miracle look to have the potential pieces to succeed. Take a genius captain, throw in a offbeat mid ace, and add three core members with their own special skills, and you might just have a team that can finally break the chains of untapped potential.
